Show SELECTIVE DRAFT WAR ARMY. Nearly Million and a Half Men Will Soon Be Under Arms. Washington. Provost Marshal General Gen-eral Crowder and his assistants are at work on the final set of regulations to he promulgated this week to complete com-plete the organization of the selective draft war army. They will govern actual ac-tual mobilization of the men selected. Statements issued by the war department de-partment show that the preliminary figures place the total force of national guard taken into the federal service August fi at 13,0!3 officers and 410.8.14 men. Another statement showed that ISO.TtUi war volunteers have been recruited re-cruited for the regular service since April 1, leaving only about 2.000 vacancies vacan-cies in the regulars at war strength. These figures mean that approximately approxi-mately 725,000 men are now under arms, exclusive of the navy and marine ma-rine corps, to lie supplemented within the next few weeks by (587.000 raised under the selective draft bill. Of the latter number about 500.000 will compose com-pose the third great element nf the war army, the national army, and the remainder will go to till up the regulars regu-lars and the guard and their reserves. |
