Show State Inspector Pleased With Local Conditions Frank Jordan of Salt Lake City, inspector for the State Board of Health, was in Mt. Pleasant yesterday, yester-day, making a sui-vey 01 sanitary and health conditions, and endeavoring endeavor-ing to get local people interested in the Clean Town contest to be conducted con-ducted by the board this year. Mr. Jordan had a good word to say for Mt. Pleasant as it is today, as lie had found conditions fair here. He stated also that this city, because of its favorable loction, could easily make a splendid showing in a contest, and he urged strongly that it. be entered. en-tered. One of the rules being followed fol-lowed by the State boara tais year is that every town and city of tiie state will be checked at the end of the contest, con-test, whether officially entered or not, and that the finds will be published. If any city is too lazy to get in and dig and clean itself up all other cities of the State will surely find it out. Self-respect and pride, if nothing else, ought to prompt every community to bestir Itself and get into the race. Mr. Jordan's plan was to arrange with the authorities for a general cleanup day within a week or so, to get the move under way. He dezr.ed that it include the schools and a day be set aside when nothing else be done. Buildings and fences should be repaired and painted, premises thoroughly overhauled and cleaned and everything done possible to improve im-prove sanitary conditions. Lawns should be kept in shape and lowers grown wherever possible. The prizes to be given will be announced an-nounced later, as will other features of the contest. Dr. Stocks, local health officer, will check up on condition condi-tion regularly during the summer, but in early fall a committee of disinterested dis-interested persons will make the final 3urvey, award the prizes and announce an-nounce conditions to the public. -u . |
