Show County Agent Urges Keeping Records 01 Poultry Flocks Pointing out that the first part of October, after laying hens are culled and pullets added to the poultry house, is the logical time to take inventory and start keeping keep-ing next year's records, Elmer H. Giibson, county agent, suggests that Sanpete county poultrymen begin now to keep complete records rec-ords of their laying hens during the coming year to promote efficient ef-ficient management of the flock. Keeping records on the poultry flock will enable the farmer to: 1. Determine amount of profit or loss. 2. Determine most desirable management practices. 3. Determine leaks and losses. 4. Make comparisons with other producers. 5. Establish standards from year to year. 6. Enable producers to make accurate income tax statements. Every poultryman .should keep a beginning and closing inventory, inven-tory, a record of expenses and receipts, and a summary statement. state-ment. Other records which poultrymen poul-trymen usually want to keep are those for production, mortality, egg quality and brooding. Provisions are made for keeping keep-ing all of these records in the extension poultry record book which can be obtained at the county agent's office at cost. Also a supply of monthly pen record cards for tabulating hen losses and production daily In the poultry house are Included. Poultrymen will find the extension ex-tension record book simple but complete. "However, records are not very valuable unless they are summarized sum-marized at the end of the year and complete analysis made to measure the efficiency of the farm flock management." Poultrymen who have been keejing records In the past, are encouraged to take time now to summarize last year's reports and improve their management practices prac-tices accordingly.
