Show Takng Orders The visit of the Japanese emperor em-peror to the headquarters of Gen. MacArthur should convince the Japanese people of the magnitude of their defeat if they are as blindly devoted to their ruler as many people assert. It should be a severe shock to the Japanese to see the Son of Heaven condescend to discuss mundane affairs with the representative repre-sentative of enemy nations. It is, we suspect, somewhat devastating devas-tating to realize that the nugust personage must take his orders from a foreigner. The people in this country are not yet advised of the purpose for which the visit was arranged and will therefore have to wait and see what develops. It may be that the Emperor is not as big a fool as some people believe and that he is preparing to take the lead in liberalizing his government. |
