Show The Way To World Peace The bomb that flattened Hiroshima, Hiro-shima, acording to Leslie C. Ar-ends, Ar-ends, of Illinois, is considered a small firecracker beside bombs already developed. The immensity of the power of destruction, released by the a-tomic a-tomic discovery, is causing considerable con-siderable concern among intelligent intelli-gent people throughout the world. Many predict that another war will mean the complete obliteration ob-literation of civilization. Others suggest that present-day armies and navies are outmoded. In short, there is much confusion and great concern. So far, no method of defense has been suggested against the ue of atomic bombs in future warfare. The moralists point out that war will continue until the nature of individuals improves and the pessimists insist that this will require centuries. Without With-out disparaging the virtues of the so-called human race, we are inclined to agree with the pessimists in their observation as to the slowness of improving the people of the world. However, How-ever, this does not mean that there is no method of safeguarding safeguard-ing the civilized world against atomic bombing. The best detense, we 'readily admit, would be the spiritual growth of human beings to the point where war would be relegated rele-gated to the past. This being improbable, if not impossible, in a short space of time, we should consider other possible devices to prevent wholesale destruction of nations and peoples peo-ples at war. It can be accomplished, accom-plished, we believe, by an adequate ade-quate system of world police and profitable discussion which relates re-lates to the best method of establishing, es-tablishing, maintaining and making effective a police power, operting in the interest of mankind. man-kind. As the world is situated, it would be possible for the United States and Great Britain, with the assistance of Russia and China, to make it impossible for any other nation, except one of the four, to resort to warfare or to possess the means of producing produc-ing atomic bombs. It would be better, perhaps, if the task could be assumed by r world organization organiza-tion and, best of all, is some form of federalized government could be established. In subsequent issues, we will probably discuss some of these methods. It requires no great intelligence, in-telligence, in our opinion, to see the advantages or a federalized world government, abolishing most of the national rivalries and establishing basic freedoms for individuals everywhere. A-bout A-bout the only difficulty in the way of this hope is the ignorance, superstitutions and prejudices that exist in the world. |
