Show MORONI I Ev Special Correspondence Moroni has certainly been fortunate for-tunate during the past 30 months to not have had any casulties resulting re-sulting from the present war, but last Sunday this most unwelcome unwel-come message came from the War Department to Mrs. Margaret Mar-garet Jacobson informing her uiat her son, Mern Jacobson had been killed in action on May 30th 1944. He was stationed at New Guinea, in the U. S. Army Infantry Infan-try The community of Moroni entends their heart felt sympathy sympa-thy to -Mrs. Jacobson and family in this sad hour of bereavement. His last letter to his mother, dated May 27th stated that he i:ad just returned from a battle v.ithout even a scratch, but they we.e scheduled to engage in another an-other one soon, which probably was the one which cost him his lue. He was one of the first ones to enter the Service from Mo-, Mo-, roni at the beginning of the war ! and was a highly esteemed and well respected young man of our community. Merritt Larson of the U. S. Army and Garth Anderson of the U. S. Navy are enjoying furloughs fur-loughs this week with relatives and friends at Moroni. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Bailey and j Mrs. Heber Christensen received j word last Wednesday of the safe arrival of a little grandson on ' June 14th to Mr. and Mrs. Earl j Bailey of Salt Lake City at the L. D. S. hospital. The mother j was formely Miss Edna Guymon I fiKt ihey are former residents of j Moroni i James Larsen of Salt Lake City, j with his daughter, Mrs. Gloria Brown of American Fork, came to Moroni this week to visit rela-I rela-I tives and friends here. They were : guests at the home of his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Martenus Lar- Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson returned re-turned home Friday after spending spend-ing the past 6 months with their son, Dee and family in Washington, Washing-ton, D. C. They report having spent a most enjoyable time. Their daughter, Mrs. Burdell Syme, who has spent several months with her husband while in the service of the U. S. Army, returned recently with her husband, hus-band, who was home on a furlough, fur-lough, but now since his return to the service, she is living with her parents. Most welcome news was received re-ceived from the U. S. Government by the officers of the Cold Storage Stor-age Locker Co-operative Association Associ-ation to the effect that they could now gU priority U Irtish the cold storage plant. They have made the public announcement that it will be in opreation on or before October 1st, 1944, which is a big boost for Moroni. They have had good success in the renting of the lockers and every one who is interested is very happy hap-py for this report. Mrs. Rodney L. Anderson re-eived re-eived word Tuesday morning that her mother, Mrs. Elvira Felt of Provo was seriously ill, so she left at once to render assistance, ( Continued on last page.) Miss Una Larsen of Echo, Utah visited a few days last week with relatives at Moroni. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Curtis and family, who have been in Salt Lake City for several months, have moved back to Moroni a-galn. a-galn. Mis. Ralph Thompson of Whit-tler, Whit-tler, California is visiting with her mother, Mrs. II. E. Dice. She expects to be here for six weeks. Mrs. Don Carter and children of Mt. Pleasant are visiting with relatives at Moroni, while her husband is at the hospital at Dragerton, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Justesen and family have moved back to Moroni from Dragerton, Utah where they have lived for several months. Mrs. Hans Arnoldsen is very 111 at her home. Her many relatives rela-tives and friends wish her a speedy recovery. Dr. Sheldon Prestwich and family of Cedar City spent last week end with relatives at Moroni. Mo-roni. Mrs. Boyce Jensen and daughter, daugh-ter, Karen left Wednesday for Marysville, California to visit with her husband, who is in the U. S. Army and is stationed there. Mr. and Mrs. Boyde Fish and three small children have lef for their home in Oakland, Calif., after spending three weeks with Mrs. Fish's parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Eliason. They also visited Mr. Fish's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Fish at Moab, Utah. William Onyon and family and Mrs. Kenneth Anderson, all of Salt Lake City spent Sunday with their mother, Mrs. Sarah G. Onyon. Billy Eleanor will spend the summer with her grandmother. grandmoth-er. The young people of Moroni have started the first year of 4-H Cooking club,' called the Chum club. The leaders are Joyce Whitman Whit-man and Lois Jensen. The children chil-dren are Ellna Nielson, president; presi-dent; Mary Ellen Nielson, vice president; Barbara Peterson, secretary; sec-retary; Joan Curtis, treasurer; Maxlne Arnoldson, chorister; Maurine Robertson, Joyce Jensen, Wanda Christensen, and Romero Curtis, program committee; Phil-lis Phil-lis Jackson and Marie Jensen, reporters. re-porters. The first meeting was held on June 7th at the home of Joyce Whitman, and it is scheduled sched-uled to hold a meeting every Wednesday at 3 p. m. Many relatives and friends called at the home of Mary Jane Blackham Sunday and Monday, June 11 and 12 in honor of her 80th birthday anniversary. Mrs. Blackham prepared and served a delicious dinner to the following people: Mrs. Joseph Blackham, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Blackham, Mr. and Mrs. Don Lavender, Lois and Dorothy Blackham, Salt Lake City, Mrs. Ethel Carter and her daughter, Barbara of Coalville; .Mrs. Alice Golden, Nephi; Mrs. Marie Arnoldy, Missoula, Montana; Mon-tana; Mrs. Clista Tidwell, McGill, Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Blackham, Mrs. Rene Blackham, Mrs. Gaynor Sorensen, Mrs. An- nie Blackham, Mrs. Hannah Hardy, Har-dy, Mrs. Irvin Gee, Mr. and Mrs. Jav Blackham, Mr. and Mrs. Don-ne'll Don-ne'll Henroid, Mrs. Amelia Melli-son, Melli-son, Mrs. George Allen, all of Moroni. Mo-roni. Mrs. Marie Arnoldy has visited at the home of her sister, Mrs. Rene Blackham for the past three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Bradley and daughter, lone of Richfield are spending a week with relatives rela-tives and friends at Moroni. Mrs. Thelma Sorensen entertained enter-tained the Cousins Birthday Club at her home Friday, June 16th. A delicious dinner was prepared and served by the hostess. Those present were Mrs. Mabel Shaw of Malta, Idaho; Mrs. Margaret Reinsemar of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Minnie Oldroyd of Fountain Green; Mrs. Abiah Brewer and Mrs. Retta Neilson of Mt. Pleasant; Pleas-ant; Mrs. Effie Hansen, Lucy Blackham, Thelma Bell, Vine Blackham, Lillian Sorensen, Edna Ed-na Draper, Christie Sorensen, Bernice Allred, Kiston Sorensen and Bertha Jensen, all of Moroni. Mr. and Mrs. Vernile Jensen now have their home completed and have moved in to it this week. The home joins on to his place of business on Main street. |
