Officers and enlisted men unable to continue con-tinue active training ssith their National Guard Army Units may-retain may-retain Guard status by transfer to the Inactive National Guard, it svas announced this sseek by Captain Gordon Staker, commanding com-manding officer of the local Guard unit. The reestablishment of the Inactive In-active National Guard, svhich ssas in existence before the svar, will introduce considerable flexibility flex-ibility into the operations of the National Guard, Captain Stoker stated. Members of the Inactive organization are an integral part of the National Guard, subject to the same general standards of physical and professional fitness, fit-ness, "and may be transferred to active status when condition., ss arrant. The Inactive National Guard provides: 1. Retention of National Guam commissions or status by Guard officers federalized during the emergency preceding the last svar and who are still in active service; those svho enter on extended ex-tended active duty in the future: and officers temporarily unable to perform full duty with their organizations over extended periods because of business or personal reasons. 2. A means by svhich enlisted men unavoidably unable to attend at-tend drill for an'extended period may retain Guard status and quickly re-enter active training svith their units. 3. A means to build up a back-log of trained Guard per-sonnell per-sonnell immediately available in time of emergency. Members of the Inactive National Na-tional Guard will be attached to State Headquarters and Headquarters Head-quarters Detachment for administration admin-istration purposes and then to an appropriate active unit for I potential future assignment. Draft-age members of the National Na-tional Guard become eligible for the draft svhen they are transferred trans-ferred from the active to the inactive in-active Guard. Men svill be enlisted in the Inactive National Guard for one term of three years only and svill be transferred to active service as vacancies occur in the unit. Enlisted men can be transferred trans-ferred from the active to the inactive in-active Guard by state authority for the unexpired period of their current enlistment. Officers and men of the Inactive Inac-tive National Guard are not eligible elig-ible to attend Armory training, but may be required to attend field training if funds are available, avail-able, Captain Staker'said. |
