Johnson, seaman apprentice, ap-prentice, L'SN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson of Fountain Foun-tain Green, Utah, served with the Headquarters Battalion of Nasal Beach Group 1, at Coro-nado, Coro-nado, California, svhich participated partici-pated in the amphibious training train-ing exercises in southern California Cali-fornia under the command of Rear Admiral B. J. Rodgers, I'S.N, Commander, Amphibious For c. Pacific Fl.et. About 19,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel, 56 ships, and 3J0 planes engaged in various vari-ous phases of the exercises. The exercises included amphibious amphibi-ous landings at San Ck-mente Island and Camp Pendleton near Occanside, Calif. Landings at San Clemente were supported b y the use of live ammunition from I gunfire support ships, and ! planes. About 600 students and faculty members from th 1 Army's Command and General Staff College at Fort Leas en -i ssorth, Kan., were on hand to ob-i ob-i serve the various techniques of amphibious ssarfare.
