Show Rio Grande Station Will Be Closed Saturday The 40-hour railroad work week, ft-hich goes into effect September 1, will result in the Saturday closing of the Rio Grande freight and passengei station at Mt. Pleasant, according accord-ing to an announcement by A. E. Perlman, Rio Grande general manager. The Saturday closing is the result of recommendation of an emergency board appointed by Presideat Truman, which brought about an agreement between major railroads and the 16 non-operating non-operating .railroad labor unions, he declared. The agreement, es tablishing a 40-hour work week, was signed March 19, 1949. Normal operation of trains will not be affected, but station operators will generally be on the same basis as Sundays and holidays, Perlman said. Speci fically, this means rnai nujjass-enger nujjass-enger tickets will be sold, c freight handled,, on those days As far as possible, freigh! business will be handled to accommodate ac-commodate the new station schedule, sche-dule, Perlman said, and where necessary special arrangements will be made to handle carload products affected by seasonal or specific time considerations. Saturdays Sat-urdays will be exempt for storage and demurrage charges to the same extent that Sundays and holidays are now, he said. |
