Show Farewell Given For Soldiers Mt. Pleasant gave a rousing farewell party Wednesday evening, eve-ning, Oct. 7th at the Armory in honor of the young men who were inducted into service this month from Sanpete county. Principal Dean Bench acted as master of ceremonies. The high school band, under the direction of Ernest B. Terry, was in attendance at-tendance and furnished patriotic music for the occasion, which added ad-ded life and spirit to the occasion. occa-sion. City Recorder Harold Hansen Han-sen read off the list of names of the men now in service who have been selected, or enlisted from Mt. Pleasant. There were a total of 182 men from this community. (We might say that is a very good showing for this small place. If the whole nation has done as well as this little place, there could be between nine and ten million men in the armed forces of the United States.) S. M. Nielsen was the speaker of the evening. He has seen much of the army life in the U. S. and told the men what improvements im-provements there were today over that of past years. It was requested that if any names of men in the service have been omitted that those who know should reporot them to the City Recorder so that a complete record can be made of the men who are now serving in the armed arm-ed forces of Uncle Sam. There has been accumulated a fund of money from parties and contributions to the fund in the amount of $169.20, which fund is intended for the benefit of the men in service. Some contention has been made about the way this money should be used for the men. It seems that it has not yet been decided upon and the money is in the bank awaiting await-ing the final decision. It was deposited as follows: April 16, S60.70; May 6, $57.35; June 6, $37.25; and July 3, $8.90. Now that it has not been fully decided how to use this money The PYRAMID will make a suggestion which seems to us a good one. "BUY BONDS!" The minute the money goes into bonds it helps every man in the service on an equal basis and it gets into action right NOW! After Af-ter the war is over the bonds can be sold and then some use be made for the benefit of those who are fortunate to return home and we hope they will all be in this group. |
