Show 16 Boys Enlist In Navy From Salt Lake Dist. The April quota for first enlistments enlist-ments in the Navy was filled this week vhen sixteen young men from the Salt Lake District, which comprises com-prises the states of Utah, Idaho, Montana and Western Wyoming were enrolled as apprentice seamen at the Navy Recruiting Station, Salt Lake City and transferred to the Naval Training Station at San Diego, California for twelve weeks' course of instruction before being assigned to vessels. The average school grade completed was 11, the average mark on the General Classification Test was 87 per cent, and the average age was 20 years. A Salt Lake boy, Frank L. Nichob of 273 L Street, wih a mark of 98 per cent, scored the highest mark in the General Classification Test and was also in the best physical condition. Four other Utahns who also were enlisted are: Bruce F. Anderson of 129 Spencer Avenue, Salt Lake City, Arthur P. Poole of Murray, and Herman E. Stayner and Wesley Wes-ley D. Steed of Brigham City. Seven youths from Montana were accepted, namely, H. . B. Keeney, Jr., E. W. Abel and M. W. May of Lewiston; S. R. Savage of Wordon, H. C. Brungard of Wibaux, C. E. Sampson of Butte, and P. W. Dyer Dy-er of Augusta. Idaho furnished four men, namely, name-ly, J. H. Niemeier of Idano Falls, D. M. May of Payette, R. L. Houston Hous-ton of Caldwell, and W. A. Edwards Ed-wards of Springfield. |
