Show The Legion Will Help National Commander Louis Johnson of the American Legion has summoned all members of the organization to back President Roosevelt's plans for national recovery re-covery t0 the fullest extent. In a comunlcation to his comrades he a ays: "Comrades of the American Legion: Le-gion: Our country is in the midst of the greatest battle in its history. It Is the Argonne of 1933, a fight to the finish to end conclusively the war of economy forces that had brought us all to the threshold ol disaster. This battle must be won oa decisively as that firts battle of the Argonne in 1918. "Victory will be swift and certain if tvery American citizen does his part. No policies whatever ?ro involved in-volved This Is no time for slackers or conscientious objectors. This is a ! light to bring contentment and i plenty back to millions of American homes that otherwise face another wittier of hunger and misery. It is a fight to give on honest job with an honest living wage tp every bread-winer bread-winer who wants to work. "We must not fail. We dare not fail To the end that these object- I Ives shall be reached swiftly and j definitely, I call upon all the 10,7fi0 I posts of the American Legion to j convene in meeting; to immediately j offer their loyal cooperation and services to the official representatives representa-tives of the national recovery administration ad-ministration in their respective communities; and to cooperate in achieving its objectives. "In addition, I call upon every in-i in-i dividual legionnaire to pledge his indivdual service in this great effort to end unemployment, increase purchasing pur-chasing power and banish the forces of depression, with their attendant suffering, from our gates. Let us as the American Legion, march a million strong into the battle lines of this struggle for 'national recovery recov-ery and economic justice." |
