Eastpoint, Georgia, recently authorized auth-orized the expenditure of $135,000 to build a municipal power plant, and free its citizens from the power trust. Orangeburg's (S. C.) experience justifies the optimistic feeling. There low rates are extant, the city gets over $20,000 free service every year, and the treasury receives a-round a-round $50,000 to help meet expenses expen-ses from the water and light plant. Is it any wonder that the power magnates fight government ownership, owner-ship, using almost every conceivable method, fair or otherwise, to discredit dis-credit the policy of letting the citizens cit-izens own their own utilities? |
