Show $50,000,000 Is Allowed Schools From Federal Civil Works Fund Following a conference between U. S. Commissioner of Education Dr. Gt-rge F. Zcok and Federal Relief Administrator Harry L. Hopk ns, the latter released $50,000,000 liom tne C W A fund to permit more than 2,000,000 children to remain ii: school for the remainder of the term and to open other schools that were already closed. This action was taken on the heels of a proposed amendment by Representative Ross A. Collins (D., Miss.), to seek $50,000,000 from the $950,000,000 relief bill now pending. 1'he funds are available only for salaries of certified teachers, for teaching the regular school work already under way this school year on and after the date upon which tl: school had been discontinued for lack of its own funds. It a- stated by Mr. Hopkins that these funds cannot be used lor administration, supervision, clerical or janitorial services, or for maintenance, main-tenance, equipment or supplies. |
