Show Receives Recognition We want to call to the attention of our younger readers the good fortune for-tune which has ccme to a 17-year-old Columbia, S. C, boy. During his spare time he delivers newspapers but that did not prevent pre-vent him from being industrious and intelligent. Now he is reaping reap-ing an excellent reward. Robert A. Lewis was an amat?ur astronomer. With his home-made 'telescope he saw a new star in the sky, which shows that young Lewis had diligently applied himself to study, was intelligent, and alert. He reported his discovery only to find that it had been noticed n'ne days earlier by an Englishman but that does not take anything from the credit due Lewis. Now, the Director of the McCor-mick McCor-mick Observatory at the University of Virginia announces that he has arranged a two-year scholarship f:r young Lewis at the University of South Carolina, after which Dr. S. A. Mitchell says he will bring the boy to the University of Virginia to study under him. So, from his own efforts youing Lewis has already attained a certaini recognition. We hope he will take avantage of the good fortune, study and apply himself him-self diligenty and reap even larger fame. |
