Show Civil Defense Plan Outlined at Meeting Monday to Workers Defense recently adopted by the State C. D. Councils, was presented pre-sented Monday evening at Trovo, in the City and County building to a large group of interested officials of District Four, was reported by Mr. and Mrs. Harbld S. Walker, directors of the local C. D. organization. The meeting, called by Thorit Hebertson, county director, was attended by Mayors, City Coun-cilmen Coun-cilmen and city and county Civil Defense directors from Utah, Juab, Millard, Wayne, Sanpete, and Sevier counties. Leonard Higginson, state director, direc-tor, in presenting the new plan, explained that emphasis now is on homeshelters rather than evacuation. It has been found that even if a community could have enough warning and be quickly evacuated to some outlying out-lying location, changing wind currents might scon carry the deadly "fall out" to the new-location. new-location. Hence it is deemed best to keep people at home in prepared pre-pared shelters equipped with all the necessary food and items for survival. General Maxwell Rich, chairman chair-man of the Utah Defense Council announced the establishment at Camp Williams of a Civil Defense School where all communitks of the state can send leaders to take basic CD. courses such as First Aid, Radiological Monitoring, Rescue Work, Auxiliary Fire and Police duties and other defense subjects. The new Home Preparation Program . was presented by Women's Director Ilene Erickson of Salt Lake. To stimulate householders house-holders to choose and equip a home shelter the national council has sent to all community directors direc-tors a Home Preparedness Kit to supply all necessary information on equipping shelters. Families may apply for a kit and when requirements re-quirements of the shelter program pro-gram have been complied with and appi-oved by local C. D. directors dir-ectors the family will be presented present-ed with a special award. Further details of the award program will be announced later when the supply of Home-Kits arrive. |
