Show Provo C of C Manager Speaks At Annual Banquet Feb. 24 "The funotion of a Chamber of Commerce is to increase the population, pop-ulation, wealth and standard of living of the- community it is organized to serye," said William K. Wotherspoon last Wednesday night. Mr. Wotherspoon was guest speaker at the local Chamber of Commerce banquet, held in the Third-Sixth Ward recreation hall. The speaker, who is manager of the Provo C of C, defined a Chamber of Commerce as an "association "as-sociation of business and professional profes-sional men organized to promote the economic health of the community." com-munity." To do this !the members must think creatively, he added. Mr. Wotherspoon divided thinkers think-ers into four classes: Sleeping Thinkers, Dreaming Thinkers, Reasoning Thinkers, and Positive Thinkers. Only the last two types accomplish anything, he said. ' Positive Thinking is thinking in action. Don't waste time wor-. wor-. rying about the past. Plan for the future," he concluded. Chamber of Commerce President, Presi-dent, Grant Atwood, opened the meeting by quoting Utah County community statistics which showed show-ed that for 1959 Pleasant Grove was first in increase percentagewise percentage-wise in postal receipts, second in new resident permits, after Provo Pro-vo and Orem, third in new home construction and third in total business. The figures were based' on population. During the dinner considerable merriment was stimulated by the drawing' for numerous door prizes donated by the local businessmen. The 1959 financial report was read by Secretary-treasurer William Will-iam Anderson. Other numbers on the program were as follows: Invocation, Junius A. West; Clarinet trio, Gregory Hanks, Judy Ju-dy Nelson, Doni Christensen, accompanied ac-companied by Janice Allen. Trumpet trio, Steven Thomson, David Erickson, Larry Hanks, accompanied ac-companied toy Mrs. John Jake-man; Jake-man; Baritone solo, W. E. Petersen, Peter-sen, accompanied by Terry Jenkins. Jenk-ins. Mrs. Dee Olpin paid tribute to Harold S. Walker, 1960 C of C Life Member and the plaque was presented by Mr. Atwood. As the concluding feature of the evening Mr. Atwood announced an-nounced the newly elected members mem-bers of the board of directors: They are as follows: Maron Oveson, Jack Love, T. Val Christiansen, Thome Smith, Gerald Klemm, LeRoy Ash, W. E. Peterson, and Jack Pace. The board of directors will meet in an organization meeting tonight, to-night, Thursday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the city hall, Mr. Atwood said. |
