Show Native Son Visits Here; Center of Numerous Events Dr. Boyd E. Nelson, native son of Pleasant Grove and Mrs. Nelson, Nel-son, nee Hilda Clegg of Springville and their two sons Boyd Jr. and Ray of Trenton, N. J., have enjoyed enjoy-ed a three-week vacation in Utah, with relatives and friends. While here they have been the center of a round of social events. Eklen and Aiwa Nelson Rowley of Provo honored the New Jersey family at a barbecue in their garden gar-den and a family dinner for Dr. Nelson's brothers and sisters was enjoyed at the home of Delbert and Dorothy Nelson Peterson, and an outdoor party in American Fork Canyon hostessed by another sister, Mrs. Justin (Zelda) Freeman. Free-man. Dr. Nelson and his family also had the pleasure of attending- the Jeppe and Anna S. Nelson family reunion at Lagoon, where Mrs. Eliza Eli-za Nelson of Provo, only living child of Jeppe Nelson, was honor guest. Dr. Nelson, who for 11 years was superintendent of the Deaf-Blind School at Ogden, left there on Mar. 1, 1954 for New Jersey, to become the first director of Special Education Edu-cation for the Handicapped. This position pertains to the development develop-ment and administration of laws and programs for handicapped children in public schools. In New Jersey it is now compulsory compul-sory for public schools to provide services for approximately 20,000 handicapped children, including mentally retarded and those with physical handicaps, speech defects and the deaf and blind. Among other responsibilities of Dr. Nelson Nel-son is that of Branch President of the LDS Church in his area. |
