Show Red Cross Asks For Donations For Flood Relief Citizens of Pleasant Grove have been asked to do their part in contributing to relieve the effects of the flood disaster recently visited visit-ed on the people of the Eastern States. In a letter to the Review over the signature of Elmer Sims, Utah County Red Cross Chairman, an urgent appeal for funds was made. The relief quota for Utah County has been set at $2,155, according to Mr. Sims. An appeal from the National Red Cross organization reads as follows: "It is difficult for most of us, unless we have actually experienced experien-ced it ourselves ,to understand the full terror and destruction of floods such as those which swept across the North-eastern States. "We cant imagine the misery of any catastrophe which takes hundreds hun-dreds of lives, injures others and demolishes their homes. A disaster disas-ter of this kind calls for instant and unsparing- aid. "The American Red Cross, in keeping with its finest traditions, moved immediately to the relief of the sufferers with food, shelter, clothing and care for the sick and injured. The long job of rehabilitation rehabilit-ation and rebuilding is ahead. It can not be done overnight. It takes thousands of man-hours of work and millions of dollars. "Because of this disaster, the Red Cross is calling upon the American people for Emergency Disaster Relief Funds. It is important im-portant now to answer the imperative imper-ative call of duty to fellowmen and spare no succor that is within our power. "E. Roland Harriman on August 24 told Red Cross Chapters thru- out the country that needs continue con-tinue to grow and estimated more than 10,0000 families would look to Red Cross for assistance. The National Nat-ional Chairman of the Red Cross said this assistance will require funds in excess of eight million dollars. "We may be sure that every effort is being made to supply all needs. We are all under inescapable inescap-able obligations to give help, and to give both generously and gladly, glad-ly, through our local chapter of the American Red Cross. Follow the example of President Eisen-hower Eisen-hower who gave his donation after urging all to contribute to the Disaster Relief Fund. He said: "The heart of America is not going to stand still while other Americans Ameri-cans are in distress and in need o fhelp." On Saturday September 3, containers con-tainers will be placed in all Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove business houses. It is the dutyall to contribute what they can to this humanitarian cause. Coin containers will also be placed, plac-ed, in all ward Chapels of Timpan-ogos Timpan-ogos Stake, according to Mrs. Ef-fie Ef-fie Adams, loal Red Cross Chairman. Chair-man. Mrs. Adams stated that the containers would be picked up from the business houses Saturday Satur-day evening and from the ward chapels after services Sunday evening. |
