Show Microwave Project Will llmprove Telephone Service A half million dollar microwave telephone construction project began be-gan this week to improve long distance telephone service between be-tween points in Southwestern Utah and .Salt Lake City. An addition is being made to the Cedar City telephone building and a new building is to be erected erec-ted at Iron Springs, West of Cedar Ced-ar City. A Microwave System will be installed between these two points. At Iron Springs, the new system will interconnect with the North-South leg of the national Microwave System. This leg extends ex-tends between Salt Lake City and Turquoise, California. The new project will provide sufficient cricuits to meet the current and immediate future demands de-mands for long distance service to Salt Lake and distant points from St. George, Kanab, Beaver, Milford, Parowan, Hurricane, Enterprise En-terprise and other Southwestern Utah cojrimuiiities which are served ser-ved out of Cedar City. The building at Iron Springs will be of masonry construction 43 by 26 feet. Associated with it will be a 125 foot steel tower upor. which the microwave antennas an-tennas will be mounted. A graveled gravel-ed access road will be constructed to the site. A 35 foot tower will be Ejected on .the top of the Cedar City telephone building. Kaze 'and Gammon Construction Construc-tion Co. of Provo, will construct the building and tower at Iron Springs and the D.D.T. Construction Construc-tion Co. of Salt Lake City, has the contract for the Cedar City job. Present plans call for the completion com-pletion of both buildings before Jan. 31, 1961. At that time, twelve telephone technicians from the Western Electric Co. will begin installing the microwave radio relay equipment. It is planned to have the entire job completed and in operation by June 10, 1961. |
