Show Football Same of Season Friday Vikings vs Miners In a hectic hassel, marked by play of all kinds good, bad and indifferent the Pleasant Grove High School football team took another step toward the Regien Seven championship last Thursday afternoon. The victims this time were the gold and grey-clad warriors war-riors from BY High. At the final gun the reckoning stood P.G. 34, BY High G. The best part of the whole affair af-fair was the weather, which was ideal for football. High clouds shielded the eyes of the players from the direct rays of the October Oc-tober sun; and there was no wind at all. Except for the students the crowd was unusually small. The approaching deer season may have kept some away; or perhaps local fans were convinced that the game was already in the bag. The play by play action went about as follows: First Quarter BY High kicked off to Pleasant Grove and on the second play from scrimmage Hal Lewis broke away and with excellent blocking went 70 yards to score. Hales place kick was good, score 7 to 0. BY returned the P.G. kickoff to their own 30. In three downs the Wildcats gained 5 yards and kicked. kick-ed. Lewis fumbled and BY recovered re-covered on the P.G. 30. Held to downs again, BY punted. Allen went 21 yards around end and a pass, Lewis to Carson, netted 27 yards more. Allen then went up the middle 32 yards to score. Hales kick was good, score 14 to 0. After the P.G. kickoff BY fumbled fum-bled and Buckner recovered on the BY 38. On an end run Lewis went to the BY 24 and Carson carried over for the six-pointer. Hales boot was wide, score 20 to 0. Second Quarter P.G. kicked and BY returned to the middle of the field. BY made it first and 10 on the PG 36. Another An-other first down for BY. After no gain by the Wildcats the Vikings took over on their own 16. After a series of runs by Allen, Merrill and Lewis and three penalties against the Alger Boys, the half ended with the ball in the center of the field. Score at halftime, 20 to 0. Third Quarter This period opened with both teams playing see-saw ball featured fea-tured by short runs and mis-cues on both sides. Don Hales recovered a BY fumble on the BY 14. Carson ran for 5 and a pass, Winters to Buckner, went for a score. Hales added the extra point. Score 27-0. After the PG kickoff Allen recovered re-covered a BY fumble on. the Wildcats Wild-cats 12. Carson made 5 and Dank-lef Dank-lef made it a first down. On the next play Clyde Jones intercepted a PG pass and outran the entire Viking crew, 100 yards over the PG goal line. The Wildcat kick was short. Score 27-6. On the first play after the BY kickoff Lewis returned to the PG 34 and Allen went the remaining 56 yards to score. Hales kicked the extra point. Score 34-6. Fourth Quarter There was no scoring in this canto. Most of the PG gains were nullified by fumbles and a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. The game ended with the ball in the Wildcat's possession on their own 24. Final score, 34-6 for the Vikings. The way things look from here, the big one shapes up as the Viking-Miner hassel slated for 2:30 p. m. tomorrow, Friday, October 26, at the local ball park. Both teams will go into the game undefeated in this season's play; and comparative scores give neither one the edge. Certainly the Vikings will need to play a more consistent brand of ball than they displayed last Thursday if they top the Bingham Boys. It's still a long hard road ahead to the B-cham-pionship. |
