Show Construction Started On Pipeline From Big Springs To City Reservoir By Fugal Brothers Construction of a pipe line from the Big Springs, north-east of Pleasant Grove, to the city water reservoirs was commenced during the past week by Neil and Boyd Fugal. The city has purchased the pipe for the project and the contract was awarded to Fugals for the digging of the trench and . the laying of the pipe. The contract was awarded to Fugal Brothers by the Pleasant Grove City Council, as they were the low bidders of the five contractors con-tractors submitting a bid. The pipe line is being installed to bring the -water recently purchased pur-chased by Pleasant Grove City from the Big Springs to a point where it can be placed into the city's water distribution system. The distance from the springs to the city water reservoirs is 6000 feet, and the flow line being installed instal-led is sufficiently large enough to be used as a main distribution line as the growth of the community commun-ity demands it. As new homes are built adjacent to the pipe line, service lines will be connected with the main line. Since the city officials purchased Die nine-tenths of a second foot of water at the Big Springs there h:is been considerable development uvrk done. A large trench was excavated a-lting a-lting the face of the hill where the water was seeping out at various places. The trench. was dug to a depth of from-4 to 12 feet, making sure that all of the water was collected at various points along the trench. A ten inch clay pipe was placed j in the bottom of the trench to ' collect the water and a sufficient layer of gravel was placed around the pipe to prevent any sediment from coming into the flow of water. The water is collected into three separate collecting boxes, each having a measuring weir, so that a record may be kept of the a-mount a-mount of flow of water at various var-ious times during the year. The cost of the nine-tenths of a second foot of water with adjoining ad-joining land was $30,000.00, and the cost of the work at the springs, the pipe and the installing of the pipe and engineering fees will be about another $15,000, which totals $-15,000.00. With the expending of $45,000 Pleasant Grove City now is as-surred as-surred of enough water to take care of the normal growth for some years. Since the City Officials purchased purchas-ed the water and land, there has been much favorable comment by many of the citizens of Pleasant Grove. Everyone knows that a community cannot grow any faster than the supply of culinary water IT made available. |
