Show Utah Symphony Opens Tenth Season With Nine Brilliant Concerts Scheduled The tenth season for the Utah ' Symphony opens on November 30, and music lovers are looking forward for-ward to one of the finest winter seasons of good music ever enjoyed en-joyed in the state. Nine brilliant concerts have been booked, starting with the November Novem-ber 30 date and running through March 25. The procession of stars who will perform at the Salt Lake Tabernacle on the series includes the world-famous Artur Rub-,n- I stein, Nathan Milstfin, Fiances Magnes and Corinne Lacomble. In addition the University of Utah combined choruses will participate par-ticipate with the symphony in a rendition of Verdi's Requiem in a two-night performance at Kingsbury Kings-bury Hall, December 9-10. R.oscoe Grover, well-known Utah radio and stage star, has been signed to read "Peter and the Wolf" on the December Dec-ember 28 concert. Mauuriee Abravanel will return from New York where he is now conducting Marc Blitzstein's new Koussevitssky opera. "The Little j Foxes" to direct the orchestra for the third sstraight year. It's a wonderful program that has been outlined for music fans of the state. The 1949-50 orchestra will consist con-sist of about 80 musicians including the finest in the state. Eight out-of-state musicians have been signed sign-ed for the season including: Tibor Zelig, Romanian violinist who will become the new convert-master; Harold Schneier, f iiut cellist; Wesley Wes-ley Lindskoog, first trumpeter; Martin Zwick, first clarinetist; Loi n Steinberger, first trombonist; Alice Lunde, bass player; Rose Watkins, leader of the second violin viol-in section, and Joseph Wetzels, cellist. The first rehearsal of the orchestra or-chestra has been scheduled for Monday, November 21, according to David S. Romney, managing director. Ticket sales have been unusually brisk and record turnouts turn-outs are expected. Patrons are urged to order tickets as soon as possible for best seats. The new symphony office is located at 55 West First South in Salt Lake City. |
