Show Berry Association Head Gives Report According to a report released last week by the secretary of the Utah Berry Growers' association, I. J. Burr, the season for 1942 shows a total sale of $30,406.43 for 20,832 cases of berries of various grades. The bulk of the raspberry crop came in the No. 1 grade, which totaled to-taled 19,329 cases and netted growers $1.45 a case. One hundred fifty-nine cases of No. 2 berries brought the growers $1.25 a case, and seven cases of the No. 3 grade brought $1.25 a case. Top prices were paid for 178 cases of black caps which netted growers $1.66 and 885 cases of a special grade which brought $1.55 a case. One hundred eighty-three cases of dewberries brought $2 per case, and 91 cases of currants netted $1.35 per case. The average handling han-dling cost per case for berries was $.064. Although this year's crop was 5168 cases less than last season's crop, higher prices and better handling han-dling methods helped growers to realize $2025.43 more than last year. Mr. Burr said most of the berries were consumed in Utah markets, but that some were shipped to California, Cali-fornia, Wyoming, Idaho and Colorado. |
