The state's production is reported jA 20,25,000 pounds, a figure exceeded ex-ceeded only by Texas, Montana, California and Wyoming. The upturn is in keeping with a nationwide trend. Number of sheep shorn in Utah this year was 2,255,000, compared with 2,314.000. Weight per fleece was nine pounds both this year and last, compared with an average of 8.7 pounds for the 10-year period. The west as a whole produced 186,129,000 pounds of wool, compared com-pared with 392,346,000 for the entire United States. Nationally, wool production is the greatest in history., The tremendous tremen-dous increase is due to a larger number of sheep shorn, since average av-erage weight of wool is less this year than last, officials said. |
