Show American Fork Locals Mrs. Ada Garfield and daughter Fay of Salt Lake viisted Mrs. Garfield's Gar-field's sister, Mrs. Eliza Searle here for several days. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Gaisford and daughter Elaine returned late S'at-urday S'at-urday night from a week's trip to the northwest coast. They visited their son and brother, Val Gaisford Gais-ford and wife at Pasco, Wash. Val is in the navy reserve stationed at Pasco, a new naval base. Leland Wimmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wimmer, has joined the United States navy. Leland left Salt Lake Friday for Great Lakes, , Mich. Morrell Ashby has returned to Boston, Mass., after spending a few days here visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Ashby. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Rogers and daughter Carolyn spent last weekend week-end in Heber City where they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brimhall. Fifty members of the Moroni Gerber family enjoyed an afternoon outing in American Fork canyon. The affair was arranged in honor of Miss Merline Gardner, who recently re-cently returned from the eastern states mission, as well as Dale Gerber o'f Salt Lake, son of Lyman Gerber. William Coates left the first of 'the week for California to spend a month visiting with his four daughters, daugh-ters, Mrs. Rebecca Morris of Sacra-menta; Sacra-menta; Mrs. Melissa Merrill in San Francisco; Mrs. Marion Martin in Oakland and Mrs. Emma Heider in Susanville. Mr. and Mrs. Athol Ross are the proud parents of a son, born September Sep-tember 10 in -the Lelii hospital. Mrs. Ross formerly was Miss Elma Hunter of this city and the grandparents grand-parents are Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Hunter of American Fork and Mrs. Lester Ross of Lehi. Friends here of Mrs. Wayne Parker of Bingham will regret to learn that there is little improvement improve-ment in her condition. Mrs. Parker for two weeks has been with her sisters-in-law, Miss Sarah Parker and Mrs. Mate Earl in Salt Lake. Mrs. Pearl Anderson of Burley, Idaho, is visiting here this week with her sister, Mrs. Norman Draper. Dra-per. Miss Gwen Nelson returned Sunday Sun-day night from Los Angeles where she visited with relatives for several sev-eral weeks. Miss Beth Rushton and Miss Vi Greenwood of this city, with Miss Pearl Robertson of Salt Lake, left Wednesday for Yakima, Wash. Miss Greenwood will spend a week there and Miss Rushton and Miss Robertson Rob-ertson will remain longer. ' ... ... wMrs, Fay Briggs was hostess Thursday afternoon to the members of the H. B. club and other guests at her home. Bridge was played, Mrs. Alta Chipman winning the club prize; Mrs. Myrtle Houston won the guest prize and Mrs. Ida ahn the consolation favor. There were present, pres-ent, Mrs. June Peterson, Mrs. Alta Chipman, Mrs. Mary Humphries, Mrs. Edythe Singleton, Mrs. Ber-nice Ber-nice Adams, club members; Mrs. Ida Calm, Mrs. Louise Hall, Mrs. Ieila Sykes, Mrs. Francell Chipman, A delightful get-together party of the returned missionaries of the east central states mission, residing in Utah county, was enjoyed by 12 of the number Wednesday night in American Fork canyon. The party assembled at the home of Miss Affra McNeill here. A weiner roast with all the trimmings was the center of attraction. Thursday evening Mrs. David Greenwood was hostess to the Pinochle Pi-nochle club at her home. A pleasant time was spent in playing this popular game and the . hostess served a dainty lunch. The guests were Mesdames Floyd Loveridge, Keith Nielsen, Phillip Cave, William Wil-liam Wright, Karl H. Bannett, John Vamey, Kay Morton, Clyde Birk, Marion Mercer and Glen Gordon, all members of the club, and Mrs. Eldon Miller and Mrs. Harvel Bennett, Ben-nett, special guests. Boyd Adams is leaving in the near future to report for service in the navy. Boyd spent four years in the navy and 20 months ago was honorably hon-orably discharged. He has reeenlist-ed reeenlist-ed and will go back with the rating of first class petty officer. The many friends of Mrs. John Crooks of Shelley, Idaho, will regret re-gret to learn that she is very critically crit-ically ill at her home there. Mrs. Byron Crookston spent last week wth her sister at Shelley. Mrs. Melvin W. Grant accompanied accompan-ied her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Andreason on a trip to Ephraim Sunday. They visited with Mrs. An-dreasons An-dreasons sisters, Mrs. Tilda Johnson John-son and Miss Eudora Fransen. Miss Fransen is very ill. She has visited here on numerous occasions with her niece, Mrs. Grant. Mrs. R. L. Ashby, Mrs. C. A Grant and Mr. Edward R. Tuttle attended the first meeting of the fall season of the Provo chapter of the League of Utah Writers held at the home of Mrs Harold Walker in Pleasant Grove Monday night. The election of officers occupied the major part of the time. The hostess served a delicious lunch to the 14 present. Mrs. Hans Christertsen and Mrs. W. R. Halliday entertained the members of the Ladies Literary club Wednesday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Chris-tensen. Chris-tensen. Keith Miller, recently returned re-turned from the Canadian mission, talked on his travels through Canada. Can-ada. He also sang two selections. Mrs. Emma Holindrake talked on the benefits of the USO. Miss Eleanor Dean White entertained with two solos. The hostesess served a delicious lunch to the 20 present. Mayor and Mrs. O. DeVere Woot-ton, Woot-ton, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. James Tattersall, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Peters were in attendance at-tendance Friday night at the banquet ban-quet and floor show held in the Hotel Utah. The banquet brought to a close the annual convention of the Utah State Municipal League held Thursday and Friday. Representatives Repre-sentatives of the city officials attended at-tended the meetings both days. Mrs. Ida Devey, Mrs. Myrtle Houston, Hous-ton, Mrs. Ida Coddington, Mrs. Juanita Storrs, Mrs. Elva Chad--vick, Mrs. LaRee Van Wagoner and Mrs. LaPriel Walters. Mrs. J. P. Aydelotte of Glendale, Calif,; and her daughters, Mrs. Reginald Gustaveson of Los Angeles and Mrs. Morris Roberts of Cedar City, left Wednesday for their homes after spending several days here, in Salt Lake and Ogden. While here they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Aydelotte. A delightful party arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Lot Robinson and the members of their family was held last Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Robinson. The social was arranged in honor of their son and brother, Elwood L. Robinson and his bride, whose marriage mar-riage occured last mid-week. Games entertained the group, directed by Mrs. Laura Timpson, and a short program of music was also enjoyed, following which a delicious lunch was served. The entertaining rooms were prettily decorated with garden Iflowers, sent by Mrs. Rudolph Clark of this city, and Mrs. J. P. Fugal of Pleasant Grove. Fifty was present. Mrs. E. N. Dahlstrom (Betty Hall-strom) Hall-strom) and baby daughter, Betty Ann, of San Luis. Obispo, Cal., are spending the week here with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Holley. Captain Dahlstrom is engaged in maneuvers with his men on the desert near Needles, Cal. Uohn Butte, John Parks, Melvin Anderson and John Durrant, four departing soldiers from the Fourth ward, were honored by ward members mem-bers at a gay lawn social at the home of Miss Mary Pulley Thursday night of last week. Games were enjoyed and tasty refreshments were served. To each of the boys was presented an army set of church books. Seventy were present. The party was arranged by a committee consisting of Miss Pulley, Francis Abel and Stewart Durrani, who have been in charge o'f similar par. ties for departing soldiers of the ward- HTM |
