Show ESTHER FILLET TAKES QUEEN HONORS "WITH 3.023,725 TOTES: LritAE BICKWALTER SECOND Contest An Exciting Affair at Queen Dance. Queen honors for Poultry Day were captured by Miss Esther Pulley with a total count of 3,023,725 votes, at the Poultry Queen dance held Thursday Thurs-day evening, Uune 20, at the Apollo Hall. Miss LuRae Buckwalter was second with 2,224,050 votes. Competition Compe-tition was keen all evening, the contest con-test causing much excitement as the polls closed around 11 o'clock. Miss Pulley, who had been third 'during the whole evening and for practically the last two days, came from behind to win the laurels. Up until 8 p. m. Thursday, Miss Violet Preston had been the leading candidate, her votes running into the million mark. At the first count taken tak-en in the dance, Miss LuRae Buck-waiter Buck-waiter took the lea'd and held it until the last count, when she appeared second, having 2,224,050 votes. Miss Preston was third with 1,404,125, Miss Lenore Crookston fourth with 1,070,-850, 1,070,-850, and Miss Eileen Gorden . fifth having 357,100 votes. This distinct honor comes for the second time into the Pulley family, the coveted title being won by Miss Mary Pulley, sister to Esther, last year. The winner for this year is an attractive young woman, and a popular popu-lar member of the younger social set. Chairman of the poultry queen committee was James W. Peters. J. B. Parker, Clyde P. Crookston and Walter Durrant had charge of the counting of votes. They finished just before midnight. |
