Show National Guards Leave For Summer Encampment i The Lehl Service Battery, national guard unit, Joined other guard units of the 222nd Field Artillery Utah National Guard for their summer encampment at Camp W. G. Williams, Wil-liams, Jordan Narrows, which will be from June 1 to June 15. The Lehl battery, comprised of 38 nlisted men, left for the camp Monday Mon-day to assist in setting up tents and making camp, ready for the arrival of the other units. Captain Junior Evans is In command com-mand of the Lehl unit. Other officers offi-cers are Elroy West of Pleasant Grove, first lieutenant; Robert Gilchrist, Gil-christ, first lieutenant and Richard Gilchrist, second lieutenant. The regiment will be commanded by Colonel Albert E. Wllfong. On June 16, the 145th field artillery artil-lery will hold Its annual maneuvers in the narrows with Colonel Lloyd H. Duffin in command. About 1400 men and 140 offlceri will attend the camp from the two regiments. Main object of the encampment, en-campment, according to Brigadier General W. G. Williams, adjutant general of Utah, is to demonstrate In the field what the guardsmen have learned In theory during the past 11 months. Ammunition to the amount of $30,000 will be fired in target practice prac-tice in shrapnel and shell form by the 1550 millimeter howitzers of the 222nd and the 75-milllmeter guns of the 145th. Equipment to be used includes 200 trucks and two army planes from California. Attending camp with the 222nd field artillery will be company G., hospital unit of Ogden, under command com-mand of Captain F. R. Conroy. Twelve reserve officers will traia with each regiment. |
