Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Bush spent la-st week end in American Fork, visiting with Wendell's family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bash. Elmo Bush of McGill, Nevada, aLso spent a few days the first part of the week with his parents. Among those from out-of-town who attended Mr. Clarke's funeral on Wednesday were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Firmage, Wilford Warnick, Vir-gril Vir-gril Peterson, President Schow of the Lent stake, Mrs. Genevieve S. Dean. Bishop and Mrs. Burgess of Alpine, Mr. and Mrs. Denzil Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Davis Chipman and Mrs. Eva S. West. The S'orosis club met last Friday at the home of Mrs. Barbara Boley. Five tables of bridge were played, the prizes beins won by Mrs. K. J. Bird, high score; Grace Coats, pues t prize, and May Greenwood won the third prize. A delicious luncheon was served, fall flowers being be-ing used for decorations. The regular meeting of the G. A. club was held at the home of Mrs. D. W. Jones on Thursday evening. The parliamentary drill was given by the club parliamentarian, Mrs. Arthur NiLsson, and Mrs. Evans gave many useful and practical Christ-ms Christ-ms gift suggestions. After the business busi-ness meeting a delightful luncheon was served by the hostess. Mrs. Diza Mortenson, Mrs. Hessie Wilcox and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Jackson of Parowon riave been staying stay-ing in American Fork the past week at the Clarke home, having been called here by the death of their brother-in-law, Mr. James H. Clarke. Mrs. Clarke's mother, Mrs. Jackson, has also been staying with her daughter. The Adams camp of the Daughters Daugh-ters of the Utah Pioneers held their meeting last Thursday at the home of Captain Mary Anderson. The following program was given: Opening Open-ing song, "Annie Laurie," by members; mem-bers; prayer, Chaplain Sarah A. Shelley; song, "Daughters of Utah Pioneers"; biographies of James and Elizabeth Cunningham, handcart hand-cart pioneers, LaBelle Ingersoll; piano selection, "Hand Cart Companies," Com-panies," Myrtle Seastrand; reading. Fern Preston; closing song, "When It's Springtime in the Rockies," by Shirley Wood cox; closing prayer. Chaplain Sarah A. Shelley. There were 29 members present. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Gaisford and ! two daughters, Ruth and Elaine, spent last Sunday in Price visiting ; with Mr. and Mrs. Val Gaisford. j Fcur peppy plantation performers ' are to entertain at the Tabernacle next Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Meal Steele Jr., Mr. Carl Watkins, Miss Norma Scott Smith of Provo, and Mr. and Mrs. William Walters of Prc.o, enjoyed dining and dancing at Memory Lane in Salt Lake City last. Young of American Fork is the new head of "Speech" at Brigham Young University, as a result re-sult of his election as president of Tau Kappa Alpha, national honorary honor-ary fraternity, last week. This is the oldest national honorary fraternity fra-ternity on the B. Y. U. campus. Mr. Young is a senior in the college of commerce, but his activities debating debat-ing and other campus activities have earned for him this important position posi-tion among his fellow students. Mrs. Heber Barratt entertained on Thursday in honor of her granddaughter, grand-daughter, Carma Barratt's, fourth birthday. Suitable . games were played after which a dainty luncheon lunch-eon was served to the little guests. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Nicholes of Riverton were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alma Olsen. Mrs. Margaret B.' Birch entertained enter-tained the Feality Bridge club last Friday afternoon at Bromley's. Five tables of bridge were played the club prize being won by Doris Robinson, Rob-inson, the second prize by Marie Robinson and the guest prize by Alvera Devey. Late in the afternoon after-noon a delicious luncheon was served to the club members and the following special guests: Lorna Birk, Donna Tregaskis, Alta Varney, Kate Roberts, Mame Baker, Cleone Cleg-horn, Cleg-horn, Alvera Devey and May Bennett. Mrs. Alma Olsen spent Monday in Salt Lake City visiting with Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Bachelor. The Junior Literary League met last Monday night at the home of Mrs. Grant Ingersoll. Among the business items transacted was the decision to sponsor a club dance in December and to start a book project proj-ect in cooperation iwtfi the public library. Mrs. Melvin W. Grant was voted into the league to replace Mrs. Allen Pearson, a charter member, who has moved to Pleasant Grove. Inasmuch as it was open night on the club calendar, social activities were enjoyed, a "Pot Luck" luncheon lunch-eon being served to the 20 members present. |
