The following is an editorial from 1938 Stftrf AUgUSt 18' SINGING AMBASSADORS Eighteen strong, the Millennial Chorus, a group of young Mormon missionaries representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is singing its way into the hearts of countless Britishers. Decked in dressy white jackets and dark trousers, trous-ers, the songsters have been and are appearing night and day before the general public. Thousands of cinema cine-ma visitors have become acquainted with "The Millennial Chorus from Salt. Lake City, Utah." For the past few months the Chorus has been filling a circuit to various cinema theatres throughout Great Britain. After performing for approximately one week in a town or city the group then moves 1011 to the next fmnnint.mpnt I Editor's note: This letter came especially for the Christmas issue but arrived too late to be printed last week. Friends of American Fork: At this Yuletide season, when numerous are the hearts that are turned to good cheer and the good will which Christmas ushers in, I would like to join with you in your many homes and extend to everyone my best wishes for a most joyous holiday season. With Christmas comes a period of happiness and enjoyment en-joyment for all that is felt the world over. How numerous are the families fami-lies that have been dispersed who are once again joined together in companionship and good will. Also we who are out in the world, who at this time are unable to return and mingle with you, can partake of the spirit of love and friendship that exists between us and all of our dear friends both here and at home. In accordance with the feeling of reverence that should exist at this time I would like to leave this little Through their past performances and behaviour their reputation goes before them and in every case they have been and are being well received re-ceived by promoters all over Britain. Thousands Of New Contacts One can imagine the number of people that are coming into contact with these Mormon missionaries when he stops to calculate the number num-ber of attenders at a given show-house show-house during a week. With two or three performances each day for one week before audiences of up to two and three thousand each session it is not over estimating to say that in one week more than 25,000 people are coming into contact with these singing ambassadors during their cinema circuit. One appreciates still thp urnrlr nf this CTOUD When thought expressed by James Rae in the last two verses of his poem entitled en-titled "Christmas". This is to us a smiling morn, To save the world a babe was born, The Lamb of God was ushered in, To bear the penalty of sin. No wonder we have Christmas cheer, I The gift of God to us so dear, . Of all the gifts that ever was made The gift of gifts the Christmas Babe. I am indeed grateful to have the opportunity of representing such a fine people as you at home, in this missionary work. It has been a great pleasure to live in a community communi-ty where the spirit of brotherly love and good wiU is so abundant. It is mv desire that I will be able to car- he pauses to recall that for more than three months this type of activity ac-tivity has been taking place. Thousands, Thous-ands, the large majority for the first time, have come in contact with Mormon missionaries. Through this method of spreading Mormon goodwill one-time prejudiced preju-diced individuals are now seeing Mormons in a different light. Spectators Spec-tators pleased with the performance of the Chorus only have to ask, to have the group fill engagements for them in private groups or social units Through their willingness to be of service and their voluntary performances they are extremely popular. Autograph seekers and Millennial Chorus "fans" are not uncommon in the communities where ths eighteen elders sing. Return Performances Sought So spirituals, sociability and novelty numbers are presented as Elections for the audience's enter-ainment enter-ainment So pleased have been the general public and the managers of Safni "return engagements have been asked for.
