Convention Con-vention Will 15e IleldAtOakland OAKLAND, California Eight thousand I.lon delegates and their families will bo gueslu of the Oakland Oak-land Lions club at tho twenty-second annual convention of tho International In-ternational Association of Lions Clubs, which will conveno hero on July 19 for a four day session. Once before, back In 1921, Oakland Oak-land was host to tho Lions convention. conven-tion. Since that time, the association associa-tion has grown from 21!9 clubs with 13,7119 members, to over three thousand thous-and clubs, with 105,000 members, In eight countries of tho world. From war-torn China will come delegates from Tientsin and Tslng-tuo. Tslng-tuo. Colorful delegations, some In native costume, will come from Mexico, Mex-ico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Panama and Columbia. And of course, from all parts of the United States and Canada Can-ada special trains and caravans will converge In Oakland. An elaborate schedule of entertainment, enter-tainment, interspersing tho business sessions of tho convention, has been planned, most outstanding of which will be tho steamer trip around San Francisco Bay, passing under the famed Bay Ridge from San Francisco Fran-cisco to Oakland, viewing Alcatraz Island prison, "Treasure Island" sl of the 1939 World's Fair, and out under the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge Into the broad waters of the Pacific Ocean. From Chicago, on July 13, will come the International President's special train. Headed by Frank V. Birch. International President from Milwaukee, the delegates will take a northerly route, going up through Red Lodge, Yakima and over to Seattle, then down through Portland Port-land Into Oakland. When the annual Lions international interna-tional convention gets under way at Oakland, California, a large representation repre-sentation from the local club will be on hand, according to present plans. Lions from here planning to attend at-tend the convention are Lions President Pres-ident John II. Miller, and Lions Earl j Holmstrud. Dr. V. F. Houston, Elmer Bate, A. Frank Gal: ford. Glen L. Taylor, Kenneth J. Bird, and Joseph Walton. M. L. Baird, Leo G. Meredith, Mere-dith, Nate Arnold and LoRoy Griffin also may make the trip. o |
