Show Viking Saga Parents and Teachers We are indeed grateful for the generous response to our annual Parents' Day last Friday, and for the splendid spirit of friendliness and cooperation displayed by patrons and teachers alike. The education of boys and girls, now as always, is an undertaking that requires the fullest cooperation, and the most sympathetic understanding possible. We are sure that such a helpful attitude at-titude on the part of parents and educators will further the ends for which our schools are established. Memories of school days were brought back Friday as parents of P. G. high school students returning to school for a day. Class demonstrations, demon-strations, and consultation periods were held to give the parents an idea of the work that their children are doing. At noon the Home Economics department de-partment under the direction of Mrs. Iva Carlson, served a delicious luncheon, the proceeds of which will be used to buy band uniforms. Music furnished during the luncheon period per-iod by the Junior high band under the direction of Erwin Jensen, was greatly enjoyed. Dr. Thomas Martin of Brigham Young university was the speaker at the assembly program pro-gram which concluded the day's events. He told of the advantages of education and of the latest developments de-velopments along this line. Othei numbers on the program were: Numbers by the seventh grade girls chorus; reading, Zola Kirk; saxa-phone saxa-phone solo, Gordon Wright; musical reading, Tyler Rogers, Kenneth Wright, Elwood Sundberg, and Harvey Har-vey Christiansen; mood dance, June Cragun, Alta Clark and Lola Tom-linson Tom-linson and a number by the high school double trio which includes, Beth Meeks, Virginia Jacobs, Thelda Gardiner, June Cragun, Belva West and Bessie Downs. Girls Basketball The athletic stars of the Pleasant Grove high school journeyed to Springville Wednesday, February 8, where they beat the girls' basketball basket-ball team of the Springville high school. On February 9, they were defeated in their game with Lehi. What kind of students have we in the Pleasant Grove high school? This question can be answered by the use of an example. Dell Phillips entered the sophomore sopho-more typing class at the beginning of the second quarter, and had no previous training. At the present time his typing net per minute is thirty-five words, with very few errors. er-rors. Such an example proves that determination, along with continued practice, gets one to the top. Seminary students held the limelight lime-light Sunday night when they gave the programs for sacrament meetings meet-ings in the Third, Windsor, and Lindon wards. This completed the projects assigned by instructor William Will-iam C. Smith that of learning to conduct meetings. Students were given a chance to participate in the line which they preferred such as musical numbers or the giving of talks. Remarks made by the pupils after the meetings were that knowledge know-ledge and valuable experience had been gained through these public appearances. At the beginning of the second week of the Personality contest which is being conducted at the high school, the seniors are in lead. The total number of votes for each contestant: Vern Deveraux, senior, 770; George McMillian, junior, 244; Kenneth Wright, sophomore, 275. Arlena Heidenreich leads the fair damsels with 1010; Bea Walker, junior, 1005; and Madge Walker has 415 votes in her favor. "And this, students, is the legislative legis-lative body of the Utah senate, now in session." Here we have an example ex-ample of the many things the Ninth grade civics students were told Thursday, February 16, when 70 students, accompanied by E. R. West and George Anderson, visited the civic centers of Salt Lake City. The purpose of the trip was to familiarize the students further with the things they are now studying study-ing Mr. West states: "Students learn much faster when they can see the things they are studying". o nicir-ps thev visited Some of the places uic were the state Capitol, state peni-- peni-- tentiary, Deseret News offices, K.
