Show Lions Meet At Training School Wednesday Nite Members of the Pleasant Grove Lions club were guests of Superintendent Superin-tendent H. II. Ramsay of the Utah State Training school, at the school Wednesday night. "Seeing is believing . . . and they came away wondering ..." Although numerous good reports from the Utah State Training School had been received, the Lions club decided to test the accuracy of the above aphorism. The regular meeting, as a result, was held at the school Wednesday night. An excellent lunch, prepared and carefully served by the students, under direction of the dietitian, was enjoyed by the club members, especially espec-ially the tardy Lions who came in with aroused appetites after bucking snowdrifts and the blizzard. Assistant Superintendent Allen presented a 1000-foot movie of school activities, and explained the school program and daily assignments assign-ments of the school personnel. "And they came away wondering. wonder-ing. . . " Important matters of business were presented by several of the committees. Lion S. A. Kirk, Pleasant Grove mayor, reported the status of the medical -detachment, the local national na-tional guard unit. He said a move is on foot to transfer the unit to some other city which has made application applica-tion for it. It was pointed out that the enlisted enlist-ed personnel, in addition to the splendid training received in first aid and military efficiency, received approximately $3500 yearly. A committee com-mittee was assigned to visit regimental regi-mental headquarters at Salt Lake City, with instructions to show the commanding officer that the city is interested in sponsoring the unit, and anxious to maintain it. -Lion E. R. West called attention of the club members to the need for an organization to sponsor a winter recreational area at Deer Creek m American Fork canyon. The U. S. forest service, it has been learned, will cooperate and develop the area, if the Utah county commission can be induced to release to the forest service approximately 300 acres of land held on tax sale. A committee was assigned to investigate in-vestigate and seek cooperation of the American Fork and Lehi clubs to promote this splendid recreational area. n |
