A jolly good ! time was had by all I The First ward play, "Red Headed j Step Child," is being successfully produced in a series of performances this week under the stake budget exchange program plan. The play ! was presented in the Second ward ; Monday night, in Alpine Tuesday night, the Third ward Wednesday j night and in Highland last night, j The players will appear at the j Fourth ward next Monday night-The night-The date for their appearance in their own ward, the First, has not definitely been set. Mrs- Leo Meredith Mere-dith is the coach and the play is being well received- The M. I. A. of the Fourth ward, under the direction of the officers of the organization, is sponsoring a three-act comedy play, "Lookin' Lovely," which will be given during February. Rehearsals are well under un-der way and the ward people can look forward to another drama treat from this group. - - - Mr. and Mrs. Neldon Birk, Mr. and Mrs. E.slie Bennett are enjoying a visit in Los Angeles and vicinity, having left here late last week-Mr. week-Mr. and Mrs- W- L. fSpot) Johnson, John-son, arc the parents of a winsome I baby girl, who arrived at their home Wednesday, January lGth- Mother and baby are doing nicely. Mrs- G. A- Anderson will entertain enter-tain the ladies of the Bee Orchis club at her home next Thursday afternoon, January 31st- All members mem-bers will please take note-David note-David Davis, proprietor of the Owl Inn, underwent a major operation Monday in the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City. Reports from the hospital indicate he is doing as well as can be expected. Mrs. Davis is spending the major part of the week with him at the hospital. The Service Star Legion met Thursday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs- R. J. Stice. Mrs. Laura Dunkley, president, was in charge. The program of the afternoon after-noon included a talk on "Patriotism "Patrio-tism and the Correct Usage of the Flag" by Mrs- Priscilla Murdock, and a review of Dorothy Canfield Fisher's "The Deepening' Stream" by Mrs. Dena Grant- There were ten present- Am. Fork Locals Mr. and Mrs- E- Pinkerton of Highland have a new son at their home, born last week. A baby boy was born Tuesday hitilit to Mr. and Mrs. Alex Erick-son Erick-son Mother and child are doing nicely. W- A- Dennis was in Salt Lake two days transacting business in the in!ei-e:,t.s of the "New Deal" Mining Company. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Turner are receiving congratulations on the birth of a baby son, born Monday All concerned are doing nicely. Mrs. Wilson Cunningham reviewed re-viewed "The Deepening Stream", by Dorothy C. Fisher, at a meeting of the Relief Society women in Lchi Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Cunningham's Cunning-ham's review was well given and greatly appreciated. Lawrence Clyde returned Tuesday night from a trip to Flint, Michigan, Michi-gan, after an absence of two weeks-Mr. weeks-Mr. Clyde accompanied friends from Provo and Pleasant Grove on the trip and the group drove new cars and Mrs- Raymond L. Kirk-ham Kirk-ham and daughter, Rae Mona, left Saturday last for their home in Hollywood, California, after spend-a spend-a month's visit here with Mrs- Kirk-ham's Kirk-ham's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hindley, Sr. Dr- G- S. Richards, city health physician, in commenting on local health conditions, states there are many persons throughout the city afflicted with severe colds and influenza- The contagious diseases reported re-ported included a number of cases of chicken pox and one case of scarlet scar-let fever. Mrs- Byron Crookston spent Monday Mon-day in Salt Lake in the interests of legislation beneficial to the cosmeticians cos-meticians and beauty operators of the county. Miss Alton Bertin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bertin, was operated op-erated upon in the Lehi hospital Monday for appendicitis. The appendix ap-pendix had ruptured but the operation oper-ation was successful and the young lady is doing nicely. The Drama class of the Fourth ward M. I. A. presented two one-act one-act plays "Teapot on the Rocks," and "Second Best", Monday afternoon after-noon and night in the ward chapel. There was a large attendance at each performance and both crowds enjoyed the plays greatly- Mrs Belle Holdsworth was the director. Mahlin Hansen of Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hansen of Mon-ticello, Mon-ticello, Utah; were here this week called by the illness and death of their father, Parley P. Hansen. Mr. and Mrs, S. F. Grant attended attend-ed the funeral services of John A. Holman in Fountain Green Wednesday. Wed-nesday. Mr. Holman was a former missionary companion of Mr. Grant in California. Among those from out of the city who attended the funeral services of Parley P. Hansen Tuesday were: Mrs. Ike Boley, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Hannah H. Johnson, Manti; Mrs. Eva K. Peterson, Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Hansen, Mrs. Hannah Han-nah Nicholes and Evan Christensen of Spring City. A. W. CLYDE ATTENDS TELEPHONE SCHOOL A. W. Clyde, local telephone company com-pany manager, returned Saturday from Ogden where he attended a two weeks special course in business management. Telephone company managers from over the entire state were in attendance. Mr. Clyde reports that national telephone company officials look for a pronounced improvement in business busi-ness conditions during 1935. During the past week George F-Shelley F-Shelley has presented to the public library ten handsomely bound in leather volumes of books covering "Messages and Papers of the Presidents" Pres-idents" up to a recent period- These volumes will be valuable addition to the reference section of the library. A birthday party was given lastj Friday afternoon at the high school by the class mates of Miss Josephine Draper, the occasion being her 16th birthday. A large birthday cake with the numerals "16" written in icing was the center piece of the luncheon table. There were twenty-four twenty-four present. Mrs. Orval C- Mercer has returned home from a visit of several weeks in California. While there she visited vis-ited with her sisters, Mrs- J- A. P-Jensen, P-Jensen, in Huntington Park and Mrs. J. H. Lowe in Ocean Park, and with Mr. Mercer's sister, Mrs- D. R. Blackmore in Watts, and his brother, broth-er, W- J. Mercer, in Compton- Mrs-Mercer Mrs-Mercer attended the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena on New Year's Day and also was privileged to visit the battleship on which her nephew, Ruben Wagstaff, commissioned officer of-ficer of the navy, is stationed in San Pedro Harbor. The cast of the Third ward play, "Short Thirty-Six" recently produced pro-duced throughout the stake, gave a party Thursday night at the home of Glen Has! em. Games were played, Thersa Mitchell and Myrtle Bigelow winning the prizes. Covers were laid at small tables for a delicious de-licious lunch served to Eli Clayson, Virginia Shelley, Arthur Gordon, Jean Parker, Glen Kaslem, Vivian Lee, Elden Hansen, Thersa Mitchell, Ethel Shelley, Melvin Brown, Sda Ashby, Grace Parker, June Nash, Helen Devey, Junior Mitchell, Myrtle Bigelow, Virginia Taylor and Bishop Bish-op Frank G. Shelley. ' An enjoyable ' time is the report of all attending. |
