Show Gold and Green Ball Gorgeous Affair: Pronounced Pro-nounced A Big Success Alpine Stake Gold and Green Ball given Wednesday evening, February 27, in the Apollo Hall, was by far the most gorgeous dancing affair of the year, and was pronounced a big success suc-cess by the large crowd in attendance. M'. I. A. officials are to be highly commended for the systematic feature fea-ture arrangements and for the manner man-ner in which they were presented. The entrance of the Queen, the demonstration dem-onstration of the Cotillian and the Grand March together with the decoration deco-ration embellishments supplied a perfect per-fect evening's entertainment. The queen, Miss Ora Holmes, and her attendants, Miss Helen Moffett and Miss Myrtle Wild, were beautiful in their regal costume. Miss Holmes' brunette beauty was enhanced with the gold cape and pale green basque fitting dress, which color scheme was symbolic of the M. I. A. colors. The little flower girls, Chloe Priday, Edna Fay Firmage and Virginia Thornton, were dainty in tulle frocks fashioned after the ballet style. The entrance of the honored party was very picturesque. Six boy scouts first entered lead by the herald, Mack Chipman. The flower girls paved the way for the queen closely followed by her two attendants. After the queen was seated 'in the thrown, the sixteen couples, who were to demonstrate the Cotillian entered, bowed to the honored honor-ed group and took their positions on the dance floor. The Cotillian was a most beautiful dance with quaint Spanish movements and a tango glide. The tempo was both fast and slow thus creating a varied rythmn. The popular ballad "An Old Guitre And An Old Refrain" was the theme music. The grand march, which was featured feat-ured later in the evening, was lead by the queen, stake M'. I. A. officials, the attendants, after which the patrons pat-rons and patronesses and the Cotillian Cotil-lian demonstrators filed. Some very beautiful formations were made. This parade far surpassed last year's march, both in arrangement and appearance. ap-pearance. Dance lovers, M. I. A. officials and patrons, all pronounced the ball a gorgeous affair and a complete success. suc-cess. Axel Bloomquist, our talented decorator, was largely responsible for the hall decorations. |
