Show Thriving Peay Dairy Starts From Small Beginning If you want to put in a profitable hour in early evening you should visit the Peay Dairy, located on the State highway between Pleasant Grove and American Fork. You will enjoy the milk you use more fully if you are able to see it taken care of. If you arrive at milking time you will be taken to a clean, sanitary barn, almost full of fine looking cows, Jerseys, Durhams, Holeteius and a few mixed breed. Each cow is brushed and the udder carefully washed wash-ed before the up-to-date electric milking milk-ing machine is oised. Three cows to he milked at once. After the milking machine is through the cows are stripped thoroughly by hand. This is done so that no milk will be left in the udder. The cows are fed and grained after the milking period before being turned turn-ed back to the pasture. (Mr. Peay states that he keeps the first four family cows that he started with for sentimental reasons. After the milking is done the milk is carried to the milk house where it i3 strained through several thickness of sanitary cloth strainers, ' and j bottled into quart bottles which have been previously sterilized by scalding water and patent brush cleaner. The bottles are capped with patent capper cap-per and placed in cold running lowing low-ing well water to cool. On examining the cloth strainers one almost marvels mar-vels at the small amount of dirt found after straining sixty gallons of milk through it. The milk bottles are placed in cases very early in the morning and two trucks distribute the milk through the towns of Pleasant Grove and American Fork early enough for breakfast. The milk being taken care of so quickly after being milked there is very little chance for bacteria to get into the milk, and as one little child said on draining her glass, "It is good to the last drop." Mr. Peay and his boys have worked work-ed hard to build up such a fine industry in-dustry from four family cows. A : modern barn, large silo, good boiler room and milk room have been added as the business justified the addition. If you are interested in the milk that you use, or want to decide on be ing a permanent customer, visit the Peay Dairy. You will be welcome. |
