Show Traffic Speed Must be Reduced On Main Street The necessity of taking some action to curb the rate of speed some motorists are driving through American Pork Main Street was discussed by the city council at the regular meeting last night. The advisability of installing a stop signal sig-nal was considered but the city fathers concluded such action was not necessary and the city marshal was instructed to watch the situation sit-uation closely. A request for a license to conduct a used car and parts establishment in American Pork was received from W. C. Scott. . This was considered con-sidered at length and the city recorder re-corder was instructed to issue a license provided Mr. Scott would guarantee to keep the shop in proper condition and not allow it to become a junk heap. The matter of depositing) the city funds in the People's State Bank was called to the attention of the council by the city treasurer. Recorder Re-corder Barratt reported that Mayor Anderson had contacted the officials offic-ials of the bank and had been given assurance by them that they would render the city all assistance that was possible, but didn's feel they should give a depository bond for the city's account, as provided by law. This matter was given due consideration and the city treasurer treasur-er was advised to place the account in the local bank and secure liberty bonds in the amount of $500 as partial security. A request was received from the city sexton for the installation of a tap in the southeast corner of the cemetery, in order that the hardwood hard-wood trees could be properly irrigated. irri-gated. This was referred to the water superintendent and sexton for action. Report was made that the church I organizations were able to pay but $100 for relief work in the city. A committee was therefore appointed by the council, comprised of C. E. Young, W. S. Storrs and M. D. Steele, which will consult with Mrs. Ora Chipman of the local R. F. C. organization with respect to the continuance of the same. |
