Bank Seeking Bonds; Funds Missing' Charged with embezzling $250 from the Bank of Pleasant Grove, ' where he had been employed as assistant cashier for about five years, Clarence S. Hill is in the county jail pending preUrriinary hearing, which is set. for July 21. i Hill was arrested in Salt Lake City Saturday night by Reuben Christianson, accompanied by county coun-ty Attorney W. Stanly Dunford, following investigations of the bank's books. His bond was fixed at $3,000, which had not been raised Monday afternoon. "Depositors' money in the Bank of Pleasant Grove is in no way endangered en-dangered by this unfortunate oc-curance,," oc-curance,," S. L. Swenson, cashier said Monday afternoon. "A complete com-plete check on the bank is being jmade by J. B. Parker." Mr. Swenson declared that the bank is safe and sound in every respect, just as it was when it was one of the few banks that weathered weather-ed the storm of the general bank closing a year ago, and also the bank holiday. While Hill's peculation dates bock to December 1, 1932, the shortage was not discovered until recently, Mr. Swenson asserts. -He was trusted implicitly by officials of the bank, who declare that his work has been above suspicion. The complaint is signed by John A. Malia, state bank commissioner. When taken before Judge G. R-Ellertson, R-Ellertson, Monday morning, Hill was not prepared to enter a plea, but asked for a preliminary hearing. hear-ing. n |
