OCR Text	Show Taxes on boats due upon registration The 1988 State Legislature authorized a bill requiring the owners of boats purchased from other than retail dealers to pay sales tax on those purchase when they register the boat. It is no longer possible for the buyer of a boat to avoid state and local sales tax when the boat is purchased from a private individual and not a retail dealer.
