Show 1 Viking boys outrun Springville in track while Ladv Vikes bow to Red Devils In the season's last home track j meet, the Pleasant Grove boys ! defeated Springville 81-60 while the Lady Vikings fell 62-69 to the Lady Red Devils. On one of the best weather days i for a meet in years, Chris Larsen j and Todd Simmons won the first two running events, the 110 high hurdles and the 100 meter dash to give the Vikes an early lead that held up throughout the afternoon. I Jason Lutes was second in the 110 highs with Gerel Newman third in the 100. Eric Cook, an outstanding cross country runner for PG, was the winner in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. In addition to their winning efforts ef-forts in the 110 and 100, Larsen and Simmons posted top times in the 300 meter hurdles and 200 meter dash. Simmons also won the long jump at 20'1" and was second in the high jump. Cory Atkinson took top honors in the javellin and pole vault and Paul Mattinson won the 400 and Craig Hayden was first in the high jump. Lutes had two other places, second in the discus and third in the javelin. Bill Larsen was second in the 400 and third in the 800. For the Lady Vikes, Rhonda Simmons picked up four first places by winning both hurdle races and both springs, the 100 and 200. Lena Kerr proved her durability by winning the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs and Lisa Hall picked up PG's other first place with a winning win-ning throw in the javelin. Vikki Allred showed nice form in taking second in the discus and second in the high jump while Shanna Neilson placed second in the shot put. Sharron Lee picked up valuable points in the long jump and 300 meter hurdles and Carole Sevy was third in the 1600. The Region 8 meet will be held tomorrow and Friday at Springville. Trials wil start at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. |
