Sc I f results of yesterday's gaE eedrnnextwek??; The Pleasant Grove High School Lady Viking Basketball Team got their season off to a flying start with a 68-50 win over a veteran Wasatch High team last Tuesday night. The Vikings started fast and maintained a 10 point lead throughout the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Wasatch applied a pressing defense that resulted re-sulted in three or four turnovers by the Viking five, and brought the Lady Wasps back within two points. After a time out for instruction from Coach Marie Bone, the Vikings were able to adjust to the press and quickly move out to a half-time lead of 40-29. Erin Measom led the first half scoring with 11 points, mostly off quick inside moves to the basket. Effective outside shooting by juniors Lisa Hall and Vikki Allred helped to open up the middle for inside players Measom, Hope Smith, Kirsten Van Dyke and Christine Larsen. The second half was closer than the final score indicates, although Wasatch was never able to get the lead. Late in the fourth quarter, the Lady Vikings surged out to the 18 point lead and the final score of 68-50. 68-50. The game featured balanced scoring by the Vikings with all five starters in double figures, Measom with 15, Smith and Allred with 14, Van Dyke with 12 and Hall with 10. Coach Bone was pleased with the play of the team and expects them to be a contender in tough Region 8 play this year. Games will be on Tuesday and Thursdays. On Thursday, P.G. traveled to Mountain Crest (near Logan), and beat them, 78-56. Coach Bone was pleased with the overall play in this |
