Show Pineview edges Vikings in three overtimes in classic football tilt ilt took three overtime periods for Ike state's number one ranked Pineview Panthers to edge Pleasant Grove 27-20 last Wednesday in St. George. Pineview tied the score at 13 with another field goal as the Viking defense refused to let the Panthers across the goaline after the first touchdown. Both teams scored in the first overtime. PG's Dave Flinders passed to Corey Carter for a touchdown and Johnston's kick was good, sending the game into the second overtime. In that second overtime, neither team was able to score, setting the stage for the third overtime. Pineview had the ball first and put 7 points on the board to go on . top, 27-20. For PG, a fumble that was recovered by the Panthers ended the game with the number one Panthers winning 27-20. Rick Mayo and Vallen Blackburn recovered fumbles for the Vikes and PG gained 230 yards to 345 for the home team Panthers. PG returns to Region 8 action tomorrow night in Springville against the Region 8 leaders. The Red Devils are undefeated in league play and have been rapidly improving im-proving after an opening season loss to Tooele. Game tie is 7:30 p.m. Thursday night due to the Utah Deer hunt which takes a majority of Utah sports lovers into the hills on Friday night. The final regularly scheduled season game is Oct. 24 when the Vikes host Payson. |
