The Planning Commission had jested many years ago that a should be built parallel to the 2,rd0Ck Canal through the city, flis road has been put in place in - some places in town. If the portion of that road from 100 Norlh to 200 South could be conducted con-ducted at this time it would take a peat deal of pressure off 100 North St Mayor Holdaway said the city would seek for a 66 foot roadway to. deeded to the city. Improvements would be required when the road is ;i completed. In the meantime, the SE city could just make it a 28 foot temporary road. This would only cost the city about $14,000, Mayor Holdaway said. The road could be paved with the mixed rick that the city does itself. This would be adequate for the present time, the mayor noted. He added that construction could begin this fall but that the paving would have to be done next summer. The citizens attending the meeting were in favor of the road being put in as soon as possible. They felt that even a graded and graveled road would be helpful this winter. They explained that it was difficult dif-ficult for the ambulance and fire departments to find addresses in their area because of 100 North being the only access into the area. The residents said that there had been a lot of close calls on 100 North in the winter time as far as accidents were concerned. They felt that being able to use the 200 South access in the winter, too, would be a big help. There has been considerable construction in the area above 100 North and this has created tremendous traffic pressure on 100 North. The city council authorized Mayor Holdaway to go into negotiations with Adams and allocated funds to construct the roadway. |
