Show Review - Wednesday, January 15, 1"J86 - Page 9 Men's basketball league back in full swing with weekly games This past week in the men's basketball league, Argus Technology, led by Brent Heaps, hit 19 points and defeated Interstate Transmissions 60-4- Gordon Smith with 14 led a cold shooting Tran-missio- n team. The game was close at 14-1- 3 in the first quarter and 28-2- 2 at halflime, mainly on good foul shooting from the Transmission men. Jeff Strasburg's 19 and Brett Campbell's 14 points were not quite enough to overcome the balanced scoring of the Kinsmen team. The usually hot shooting Colby Adamson was held to 6 points, which is possibly the lowest point total of his long basketball career. However, Kaylon Whilely and Perkins with 12 each picked up the slack, with all nine players for Kinsmen entering the scoring column. What promised to be one of the close games of the week, saw , SAVEAK win by forfeit over Story Pharmacy on a mixup of date and time. Steve Peterson's Interiors, led by Joe Tait's 23 points, beat a good Interwest Team, 84-5- Interwest, led by Blen Freestone and Craig Bradley with 16 each, was not quite enough to beat the front running Interiors team, who had four players in double figures. Cold foul shooting for Interwest, who shot 20 percent, didn't help their cause. Garth Hansen with 17 and Joe Howe with 15 led the undefeated Walker OilLindon Precision team to a 60-4- 9 victory over a very good SouthamWarburton Aluminum team. A hot second quarter opened up a 10 point lead at half-tim- e and the teams played even ball the second half. Mark Atwood with 21 and Scott Fairbanks with 12 led the SWA team. The difference in the game saw WOLP shooting 75 percent from the foul line as op-posed to 56 percent for SWA. Lamoreaux Concrete came from behind in what was the most ex-citing game of the week. The first quarter saw the score 12-1- 1 for Kelly's, and halftime saw Kelly's maintaining a 25-2- 2 lead. The third quarter saw the score tied at 36 all and with a final of 56-4- 9 for Lamoreaux. Again the hot shooting from the foul line (84 percent) for the Concretemen made up the difference in the game. Ken Robinson with 23 and Steve Patten with 15 were the big scorers for Lamoreaux, while Randy Peterson with 22 led Kelly's. Lady Vikings knock off Uintah in league game Utilizing a full court press and a devastating transision game, the lady Vikings rolled over Uintah 67-4- 7 1 ast week. Debbie Fisher and Jayleen Walker, Viking guards, clamped a tight press on the visiting Utes from the opening tipoff and after eight minutes of play, PG was com-fortably on top 18-- When the Utes were successful in getting the ball up court and able to shoot, Lila Fugal, Kim Woffinden and Cherylnn Johnson got nearly every rebound. Those three front line players quickly kicked the ball out to Walker or Fisher to trigger an early offense that kept PG's lead at 29-1- 8 by halftime. For the Utes, Jenny Zeilstra was the bright spot in an otherwise mediocre offense. The sophomore inside player was unstoppable when she got the ball. However, Fugal, Woffinden and Johnson kept her from getting the ball very often. When Zilstra did get her hands on the ball, she found the basket good for 29 points on the night to lead all scorers. Uintah tried a full court press in the second half and the move helped the Lady Utes to pull within seven points early in the fourth quarter. PG recovered nicely and was pulling away when the final buzzer sounded. Leslie Tobler and Hope Smith, both iuniors, looked good in coming off the bench by adding additional quickness to the PG team. Coach Marie Bone has a very quick team that hustles from start to finish in a fast paced entertaining brand of basketball. Johnson was the leading Viking scorer with 18, Walker had 14, Fisher 12, Woffinden 10 and Fugal 9. The Lady Vikes played at Payson last night and will host Springville tomorrow night in games at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. I ! " ' ' ' V s I I : " ,; ;. Wilkinson led the scoring in that big first quarter with 6 points and ended the day with 8 to lead the balanced scoring for the Knicks. Caldwell and Chipman with 4 each were the offensive guns for the Bulls. The Lakers had to fight back from a 19-1- 7 score at half time to take a 28-2- 3 lead at the third quarter break and then hang on for a close 38 to 35 victory over the suns. Chris and Chad Blackhurst led the scoring for the Lakers with 9 and 8 points, respectively, and along with Walker's 8 points, proved to be the winning margin in a very close and well played game. Harris was the high scorer for the game with 14 for the Suns, followed by Livingston and Chipman with 8 and 7 points respectively. The Pacers had to come from behind in defeating a young Celtics team 38-2- The score at halftime was 14-1- 3 for the Celtics, but a big third quarter outburst led by Humble's 5 points put the Pacers ahead to stay. Humble with 11 and Lloyd with 10 proved to be the of-fensive spark that made the dif-ference in the game. Robinson with 14 and Walker with 8 were the big scorers for the Celtics. Robinson hit two 3 pointers that kept the score close until the fourth quarter. The Bucks remained undefeated with a big fourth quarter as they outscored the Cougars 12-- 2 in that quarter to break away from 27-2- 7 third quarter score. Karren with 6 and Linebaugh with 4 had the hot hand during the decisive fourth quarter. Balanced scoring for the Bucks with Tatam, Karren and Clark, all with 8 points, while the Cougars relied on Martin with 10 and Southam who scored 7 to lead their scoring efforts. The Jazz rebounded from their first round stunning upset at the hands of the Pacers with an im-pressive victorv over a young Spirits team, 45-2- Jacklin with 14 and Kelly with 13 led all scorers for the Jazz. The Spirits countered with Montgomery and Zorn with 8 each and Hanks with 6 for their scoring punch. A big first and third quarters proved to be the difference in the game as the Jazz outscored the Spirits 17 points in these two quarters. The victory sets the stage for the Jazz's meeting with the unbeaten Laker team on the 18th, while the Spirits will have to face the yet unbeaten Knicks. y, AUTO & TRUCK GLASS at we cME t yu" If SLIDING TRUCK WINDOWS.
