Show Open house slated in honor of 80th birthday of Martha Forbes The children of Martha Forbes will honor her on her 80th birthday at an open house Jan. 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. at her home, 596 N. Main, Alpine. The family requests no gifts, please. Mrs. Forbes was born Jan. 18, 1906, in Lehi to Peter Nels and Rose Evlyn Winn Peterson. At an early age, she learned the importance of thrift, dedication and hard work. From her mother she learned to cook, sew, play the piano, do hand work and keep an neat and orderly home. Her mother saw that she was educated and attended Brigham Young University, where she earned her teaching certificate. She V-s taught in the San Juan and Alpin. iool Districts. She met Arthur Robey Forbes while teaching in Alpine. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 29, 1928. They were the parents of three children: David A. Forbes, Caldwell, Idaho; and Allen R. Forbes and Carol Drew, both of American Fork. In addition to teaching school, Mrs. Forbes has worked as a clerk at Sprouse-Reitz for 15 years. Mrs. Forbes has been active in the LDS Church, teaching in Mutual, Primary, the Relief Society and Junior Sunday School. She was president of the Relief Society, a counselor in the Primary and Junior Sunday School Coordinator. She was affiliated with the Training School LDS Branch as a librarian and secretary of the Primary while Mr. Forbes was in the Branch presidency. She enjoys doing genealogy work. Mrs Forbes has created with her talented hands a beautiful, happy home filled with sunshine and hospitality. Martha Forbes |
