West champs ' Pleasant Grove's water polo team played Skyline, last year's Western State Champions, in a meet at Tucson, Ariz., and although the varsity lost the junior varsity and the girl's teams won. Coach Kevin Dickerson said that other than practice sessions, most of the Pleasant Grove players had never seen the game played before. The local team even has two eighth graders on it, one of whom is the team's leading scorer, Eric Franson. Other scorers include Tad Davies, Val Blackburn, Rav Tiffany. Robert Gerhold and Todd Boley. The Pleasant Grove polo team is the only one in Utah Valley so they have to travel to Salt Lake City to play the larger 4A schools. In fact, the team will play a BYU team this week. The water polo team is planning a trip to Tucson for the Western States Polo Tournament over the Memorial Day weekend. Explorer Scouts compete in District Sundance Ski-a-ra- ma Boy Scouts from the ages of 16 to 18 took to the ski slopes at Sundance Saturday to participate in the Explorer sponsored by the Timpanogos District. Gold, silver and bronze medals were presented to the top three finishers in three different classes. Mike Slater, Chris Stephens and Robert Benson claimed the gold medals for their respective categories of advanced,' in termediate and beginners. "It was a lot of fun," said Slater of Pleasant Grove. "I've never raced before - I just do a lot of skiing." "It went well," said David Hodges, Timpanogos district executive. "I think the kids enjoyed it. We'll sponsor one next year and hopefully it will be bigger." Omar Kader to speak The Utah Democratic Forum announces (hat Dr. Omar Kader will be the Forum speaker for March. He will address the Forum at a dinner at the Tiffin Room of ZCMI in the University Mall, Orem, Friday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. Cost will be $6.50 per person. An informal reception will be held at 6 p.m. for Dr. Kader. Dr. Kader is a native of Provo. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Southern California. He is a political scientist who resides in Reston, Va., working as a con-sultant on international affairs.
