Community-wide Health Fair slated A community-wide Health Fair will be held Saturday, April 26, from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Stake Center, 800 N. 100 West, Pleasant Grove. The event is sponsored by the Pleasant Grove and Timpanogos Stake Relief Societies but all residents of the community are invited to attend. The Health Fair is also part of a program endorsed by Chevron Corporation, KUTV 2, and the Utah Department of Health. The fair will include exhibits and demonstrations. Free health screenings for vision, height-weight, blood pressure, and more will be offered and referral services will be provided. There will be optional 24 channel blood chemistry tests for $10 which screens for liver, kidney, diabetes, cholesterol, etc. This requires four hours of fasting prior to the test. Drinking of water is okay. In addition, for $15 there will be the 24 channel blood chemistry plus a cardiac profile. There is a 12 hour fast requirement here but water is allowed. If the testing results in any indications in-dications of unusual conditions you will be referred to your family physician or to another source for follow-up. Multiple screening is neither intended in-tended to be nor is it a substitute for a physical examination by your doctor or health care provider and abnormal results are not positive evidence of disease. Gayle Judd, local chairman of the Health Fair, said that doctors are becoming convinced that many diseases can be prevented or their effects reduced in severity. Health habits have a great deal to do with whether we get these diseases and, if we do, their impact on our lives. Families are invited to attend the fair but only those 18 years of age and older may take advantage of the blood tests. |
