In 1946- - Berlin wrote what is considered his best score. "Annie Gun", with music and net Your krics by Irving Berlin and book by Herbert and Dorothy Fields, was an immediate Broadway hit, running fori 147 performances. Pr'oduced by Rodgers and Hammerstein, it opened in New York on May 16, 1946, and has since had extensive road tours and numerous revivals. The score in-cluded such gems as "The Girl That " "You Can't Get a Man I Marry With a Gun," "They Say It's Won-derful" "I Got The Sun in The Morning", "Anything You Can Do," and "There's No Business Like Show Business." The demanding role of Annie has been double, cast because the . heroine has aii unbelievable 13 show songs to perform. Heather Carson will portray Annie on Thursday and Saturday. Analese Fillmore will play the part in Friday's show. Jeff Kirkpatrick won the role of Frank Butler, and Buffalo Bill will Neil Davis as Charlie Davenport barks out news of Wild West Show in Lehi High School's production of Irving Berlin's "Annie Get Your Gun" Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Roof". Carl went on to win drama scholarships in college. Gary Wilson, noted for his role in Midsummer Night's Dream, con-tinued his acting career at BYU where he had lead roles in several major plays. Jan Shelton was discovered in "Fiddler", and is gaining respect for acting abilities at SUSC. Lehi High's aspiring young actors and actresses who will be per-forming the demanding roles in"Annie Get Your Gun" have the talent and the determination to succeed in college. Heather Carson and Analese Fillmore are exceptional, as are Jeff Kirkpatrick and William Fitzgerald. No one can doubt the talent of Preston Marshall - he proved it in an earlier production, and Darren Daly is hilarious as Sitting Bull. "Annie Get Your Gun", Lehi High's 1985 musical production, is an extension of Glen Smith's talents, and it's will provide a showcase for his talented students. Don't miss it. be played by Preston Marshall. Corinne Erickson is the irrepressible Dolly Tate. William Fitzgerald and Neil Davis are doublecast as Charlie Davenport. Darin Daly is remarkable as Sitting Bull and Kirk Smith will be Pawnee Bill. Brad Gibbs will play Wilson; Laurie Gaisford, Minnie; Nichole Hill, Jessie; Candice Dalley will be Nellie and Adam Merril, Little Jake. Sonnet Somerville is Mrs. Sylvia Potter Porter; Tiffany Dalley, Mrs. Adams, and Brad Gibbs, Mr. Adams. "Annie Get Your Gun" is the 21st major production staged at Lehi High by director Glen Smith and under his direction, the life of Annie Oakley and the Wild West Show will be performed on the spacious Lehi High School stage. Backdrops valued at $10,000 each have been rented from the University of Utah, and lighting techniques have been developed by Raulan Young and Robert Erickson assisted by Mindy Gavin. Music is under the direction of Ann Smyth. The plot of "Annie Get Your Gun" concerns the fabulous career of sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her love for Frank Butler, whom she ousts as the star of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Those who have watched rehearsals say that the cast has been well-chose- n, and exciting new talents have been discovered. Glen Smith has the exceptional ability of bringing out the best in every cast member and it is ap-parent in "Annie Get Your Gun". Many of Smith's drama students have gone on to university or college where they have won roles in major productions. The performance (two love stories told amidst the challenge of change and violence in today's Ireland) will be a benefit performance with all proceeds going into a fund to help the firstgroup of North Ireland teenagers visit America in 1986. Tickets are $8 and performance time is 8 p.m. at the Pardoe Drama Theater, Harris Fine Arts Center. A minimum of $18,000 is needed to pay the way for 12 teens and their adult leaders to come as part Ulster Project." Uster Project operates on the theory that one way to solve the problems of conflict in Northern Ireland is to create friendships among the teens of different religious backgrounds. It is described in literature as "a Christian community endeavor to foster tolerance, understanding and friendship between Northern Ireland teenagers and their American counterparts." Further information about Ulster or about the "Spokesong" per-formance can be obtained by con-tacting Judy Wight, 224-235- Foster returns to play Local residents will have another chance to enjoy an evening with the "Old Folks at Home." Because of an overwhelming response to Monday's evening of Stephen Foster music, a repeat Performance will be held Monday, March li, at 7:30 p.m. at the pageant of the Arts Center, 454 N. Center. At Monday's initial performance, 'he Alpine Chamber Music Society Orchestra and Chorus played to a standing-room-onl- y crowd - and had to turn away some who had hoped to hear Foster's timeless melodies. There is no charge for admission to the concert, which is produced by Utah Pageant of the Arts as part of their expansion arts program. The program is narrated by Marvin Payne, who also performs "Beautiful Dreamer." Several other classics by Foster will be per-formed. |
