Winners in the Pleasant Grove City Reflections Contest were honored at the Founders Day program held last week at Pleasant Grove Junior High School under the direction of the Pleasant Grove PTA Council. Music winners performed their compositions and literature winners read their manuscripts to the assembled audience. Winning art entries were displayed in the foyer outside the auditorium. American Fork OO-96- 04 (( - t i v y,fi Debate Club shines at Region meet By JON HOLDAWAY In stiff and rugged competition, the Pleasant Grove High School Debate Club held their own against ,$ome of the best teams in the state at Lehi High School last Saturday . Sending one person to state, Michael Maloney, and having two others come close, the Debate Team competed against teams from Carbon, Lehi, Payson, Springville, and Spanish Fork. Michael took top honors in Lincoln- -Douglas class debate. Carol MacFarlane came close to going to state in Impromptu speaking but was edged out because of a state rule on eligibility, although she placed in the top 10 in Region. In Student Congress, Jon Holdaway also came close to going to state but was also not allowed because of the eligibility rule. He scored a 9 on a scale of 1 to 30. Ben Thompson took second in the school with a score of 12. David Liddle and Jackie Groo each received a 23. Three debaters, Jon Holdaway, Ben Thompson and David Liddle represented PGIIS in the Region Debate Meet. Not shown, Jackie Groo, Carol McFarlane and Michael Maloney. Wrestling sign-up- s to begin in Rec. Dept. The 1985 Elementary Wrestling Program, under the sponsorship of the Pleasant Grove Parks and Recreation Department, will begin March 19 at the high school boys wrestling deck. The program is under the direction of high school wrestling coach Darold Henry and Ray Fugal. for the program will take place starting March 12 thru 18 at the Recreation Office and the Community Center. Registration may be made any time between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Information flyers will be sent to youngsters through their homerooms in the schools. Pre-school through third grade will practice on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. while the fourth through sixth grades will practice on Wednesday evenings at the same time. Registration fees are $15 for residents and $17 for This fee will include a rt and entrance fees for the season-en- d tournament.
