They must shoot from each spot at least one time, and if they shoot twice, they receive bonus points. Eric Jacklin also competed in the Salt Palace, and did quite well. He took first place in an earlier com-petition, qualifying him to compete in the area shoot-ou- t. Pleasant Grove Recreation would like to compliment all of the young people that competed at the city, state and area levels, for their fine shooting. It might be noted that several of the state and area scores were right on par with the scores in the Pleasant Grove City com-petition. Heather Johnson of Pleasant in the recent Grove won first place area Pepsi Hot Shot shoot-ou- t at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake. She won with a high score of 114 points, beating out all of the other con-testants in the bracket. Heather will compete in Kansas City, Mo., against other girls from all over the United States. She will represent the Utah Jazz and their Jr. Jazz program all over the state of Utah. Competitions are held all over the state, for girls and boys from 9 to 18 years of age. J ! - Urenden McEwan Brian Wright Nathan Robinson Young breakdancers win contest Pleasant Grove Recreation recently held its "Heartbreak Breakdancing Contest," and several of the young people in Pleasant Grove and Lindon par-ticipated in the contest. Brenden McEwan won the six to eight-year-ol- d division. Brenden has been taking the Breakdancing class from the Recreation department, and is one of the "Naturals," in the class. Even at his age, Brenden is in the advanced class! Brian Wright won the singles in the nine to division. He had a lot of original moves that received "ooo-s- " from the audience. He also won the team competition with Nathan Robinson. They d their routine, and it was a lot of fun to watch their d routine. David Grow, also an advanced breakdancing student with the recreation breakdancing class, took the singles division in the thirteen to fifteen year-ol- d division. David is very flexible, and was able to make several moves that made those in the audience over 20 years old groan! The competition was a great success, and those that watched and participated really seemed to enjoy watching the unique form of dan-cing. Girls Jr. Jazz enjoys season The Girl's Elementary division of the Jr. Jazz is in full swing. The first half of the season was played in a format with no score being kept. This gave the new players a chance to develop skills, and returning players an op-portunity to refine their game. At the half-wa- y point of the season, the league took on a com-petitive look. Three games into the second half, the race is tight. The Manila team leads the league in win and loss records with returning players Heather Johnsen, Val Nickel and Eva Walker. The Valley View I team and the Lindon team all close behind the Manila team, with only one loss each. The Valley View team is led by scoring from Kelli Francom, Liz Coons and Natalie Huntsman. The Lindon team is spurred on by Sheila Blackhurst, Angiel Williams, and Shani Anderson. The Valley View II team and the Grovecrest team round out league with balanced scoring tP Toni Campbell, CheriLv' Knuteson and Shannon West l-ithe Valley View II team, e Christies Cox, Kra Baker andCas Bone for Grovecrest. STANDINGS MANILA VALLEY VIEW I LINDON VALLEY VIEW II GROVECREST Sophomores undefeated in region As the 1984-8- 5 basketball season winds down, the Pleasant Grove high school sophomore team not-ched up two more victories. This gives them an impressive 0 record in the region, with one remaining game. Jeff Harris had a great week, rolling up 38 big points in the two games. On Feb. 26, the Vikes had a show down with Lehi in the Pioneer gym. The Lehi team put up a great battle, but went down to defeat to the score of 63-5- Harris scored 22 points, and Cody Bell continued his hot shooting streak, to get 16. Todd Simmons added 11, and Bob Fisher had 8. The Payson team came to town on March 1, and were literally blown out of the gym. The Viking starters ran up a 30 point lead by early in the third quarter, and the reserves came in to ice the victory by a 25 point margin, with a score of 74-4- Harris again was impressive, garnering 14 big first half points, and finished with 16 for the night. Bell added 14, and Bob Fisher had 10, on some nice outside shooting. Evan Thomas did a good job on the boards and setting up the fast break. ' Scott Jensen was sidelined with an injury in the Lehi game, but should be back in action for the Carbon game, which will finish the season for the Sophomore team. R-Tea- m, Stamp Mill tied in exciting women's basketball league action The Women's Basketball League has become an exciting, highly competitive arena this year. has led by scoring from local stars like Angie Cottle, Jeri Kelly and Pam Beckstrand. They are tied for a highly contested first place with the Stamp Mill. The Stamp Mill receives balanced scoring from Neresa Neilsen and Rosemary Jacklin. In last week's play, the Stamp Mill held out for a double overtime win over 'The Wrecks.' During the last 12 minutes of play, no more than two points separated the two teams. Battlecreek manufacturing is close behind in third place with only two losses to the top two teams, but they are definitely a power to be reckoned with. Easily the tallest team in the league, they are lead by Tori Berry, Angie Black and Wendy Chapman. All in all, the final weeks oli league promise to be exciting physical. The league is still t open, and could turn out to anyone's in the next few weeks. STANDINGS , STAMP MILL 1 BATTLECREEK OREM WRECKS f SPORTS FORM cor IK Central High out spikes Vikes Central High Cobras played members of the Pleasant Grove Vikings Volleyball team last Friday, March 1, and beat the Vikings two games out of three. The Cobras led the first game the entire time with an outstanding lead at one time of 10 points. They won that game, 15 to 5. The second game was lead the majority of the time by the Vikings, with the Cobras following by one or two points. When the score was 13 to 8 for the Vikings, Cobra Toni Smith served for the Cobras, and brought the score to 13 to 10. They continued their game until the score was 14 all. Jim Talbot, captain of the Cobras, served to make the score 15 , to 14. He served one more time, and the final score was 16 to 14 for the Cobras. Both teams played well and en-joyed the competition. The game ends the season for the Cobras with a 1 record.
